In the end, he leaves the hospital without the problem getting corrected, and is content to move on with his life and whatever happens will happen. (AD keeps bringing teh funny, and if it gets canceled then so be it.)

The offices are forced to vacate their lofty penthouse and lease their space to someone else, and are happy about just being able to continue working. (AD bumped from post-Simpsons slot by Family Guy, but haven't been canceled yet.)

Makes perfect sense to me. Utterly brilliant.

I'm mad I didn't get the 22-18 joke until I read it here. This kind of joke though proves how amazing of a show AD is.

I don't think it's that much of a stretch. They even had Homer Simpson as his doctor and had Michael keep repeating about trusting his decisions and that it was all for the best.

Anyway, it was just my take on it.

Thanks! Just as I came to my own defense, there was Gunde right there with me...

I bet we'll find out when the DVD comes out and they have the commentary, that your thoughts were pretty close to the truth! ;)

I could not stop laughing during this, awesome episode

There was also the joke in which Tony Wonder had to change the name of his video because a band had it before, much like how the band Arrested Development sued over the name.

Trust me, the turn around for shows like AD from when they are finished filming to when they air is rather quick. The joke about them not having them planned out... it was true. ;) sure, they have a rough idea about the general direction of some of the characters, but the fine details of a show are worked out quickly.

Wow, I never even caught that. It was funny enough just based on the Use Your Illusion I & II gag.

Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II are Guns N' Roses albums. I think the joke is on the album names rather than the Arrested Development lawsuit. The humor can be way out there...

Right... on the surface for the casual viewer. For those looking for deeper jokes one could assume it is ALSO a reference to the name lawsuit. Didn't Wonder say he was sued over the title? That is why he changed it?

One could also expand on that since Axl Rose did threaten to sue someone else(the Offspring) over an album title... "Chinese Democracy," which he thinks he has some legal right to.

The 22-18 one flew right by me as well, but I was trying to keep up with my 8 month old daughter at the time, so AD didn't have my full attention.

I also think that is quite an astute observation bralph. I find it very probable with the caliber of writers on this show.

That's kind of insane, considering that they'll set something up that pays off a season and a half later.

and that's the genius of this show... it's unlike anything we've seen (seinfeld did it a few times, I guess)

where did the AD writers come from? anyone know other shows they have done? I'm curious if their "deep" humor can be seen elsewhere

I think referencing Arrested Development the band and Chinese Democracy is a stretch. It's just a joke about using the same name as Guns 'N Roses.

-You can allude to Poe or someone. Wait, scratch that, I'm doing Poe!

-What about Chaucer?

-Just anyone but Poe!

Use Your Illusion is a set of albums by Guns N Roses. Use Your "Allusion" is a DVD by Tony Wonder.

An allusion is a reference to another person's work, usually literature. So Tony Wonder says that he is going to reference Poe in his <strike>magic trick</strike> illusion and Chaucer in Buster's.

Groucho 03-29-05 07:54 AM

Not to mention that the entire episodes had allusions to the current state of the show.

Oh.

I'm not sure. I just thought it was amusing for some reason.

The only show I can think of that has ever been this smart is MST3K.This show is so perfect, I wish I was a billionaire so I could finance endless seasons of this show. Please Fox do not let this show die, I hope their new president gains some appreciation for this show.

You forgot the best part, Buster going, "YESSSSS!" when he finds out he can do Chaucer.
