So the one night stand turns out to be her superior? What a complete and total shocking turn of events!

invisiblegt 03-27-05 09:44 PM

Oh, that's nothing.

The new guys manage to find the thing ailing a little girl as it baffles the experts? Again... shocking.

Patman 03-27-05 10:08 PM

I thought it was okay, though cliched in spots. Not crazy about the reveal regarding Grey's mom, a bit sad.

B.A. 03-27-05 10:13 PM

I like most of the cast, but I didn't care for Sandra Oh one bit.

Not a bad show - will have to see how it goes over the next few weeks.

MrX 03-27-05 10:24 PM

I thought it has potential

Some of the writing is heavy handed, the Doctor saying only god can makes promises, and they telegraph everything that is going to happen.

The ending with her mom was a little depressing.

Bell65 03-27-05 10:36 PM

potential.
lots of pilots are cliche and what not, overall good, a pretty big emotional roller coaster, although it serves as a good metaphor for that age! being in a very similar position to dr grey!

Hubcap 03-27-05 11:06 PM

i thought it was ok, better then that boston legal garbage. I'll give it another go next weekend. And sandra oh is just horrible. She really anoys me.

Charlie Goose 03-27-05 11:59 PM

Feh. Unlikable characters in ridiculously obvious situations. Comparing the first episode of "ER" to this is like comparing the first episode of "Lost" to "Gilligan's Island".

nny 03-28-05 12:20 AM

I loved it. It was cliched, but just about everything is. It got me emotionally invested. I don't know how I feel about Sandra Oh, but I really liked most of the cast. I also enjoyed all the music. Pilots often have more songs packed into them than a typical episode. I wonder if they'll cut back on the music.

RMSpuhler 03-28-05 01:00 AM

I love Sandra Oh, but I was kinda lukewarm on this. Awfully cliche. Would have liked more character and less medicine - more Six Feet Under and less E.R., I guess. Maybe that's just a pilot thing.

Well at least there is room to do anything still at this point. Did anyone else think Sandra Oh didn't fit in at all? She appears to be 15 years older than the other students, kinda irked me.

shoppingbear 03-28-05 01:45 AM

I watched it mostly because I'd heard it was set in Seattle, gotta watch my home-town do proud. :) I was  at the obvious placement shot of them up on the roof meeting the helicopter, Seattle's most recognizable landmark in the background, especially since there's no hospital near the Space Needle... unless you call the downtown Group Health building a "hospital", that's in the right area...

The local ABC affliate had a news story on the 11 o'clock news saying that shot was actually their own helipad at the news station, and that the show would be shooting scenes in the area over the course of the season (for other locals: they gave examples of shots of characters driving to work on the Viaduct, ferries on the Sound, etc).

OK show, not very engaging, but I might give it a few more chances because of the location. :) I don't get all the Sandra Oh hate... she's OK, no better or worse than anyone else, although she does have sort of strange eyes.

I thought about that as well. Like they need 4 shots of the space needle for us to know it is in Seattle. Real Subtle.

What was the reveal about her mother? I went to bed with about 10 minutes left in the show, and I didn't get a chance to finish it this morning.

It appears her mother, the great surgeon, is in a nursing home w/ rather advanced Alzheimer's (?) at a very young age (55-60). She didn't know who Meredith was. Thought she was a doctor - Meredith told her she was indeed a doctor. Showed her rubbing her hands/wrist. Meredith told her mom that she is not going to sell the house, etc..

Patman 03-28-05 07:37 AM

Why would Heigl play yet another character named Isabel?

Phil L. 03-28-05 08:49 AM

Best part of the show was Meredith. I think she is very cute.

Sandra Oh is mis-cast and annoying.

I'll give the show another shot or two, last night's ep was mostly entertaining I feel. And as others have said it does have potential.

movieking 03-28-05 08:59 AM

Ellen Pompeo is a dead ringer for Joey Lauren Adams/Renee Zellwegger/whoever.

I never realized it was her in Old School until I just looked it up on imdb.com. I had thought that it was one of the other blonde clones.

I liked it. I thought it was pretty heavy on character myself.

Those residents look really young though. I guess I'm just getting older.

Amel 03-28-05 09:42 AM

I caught the second half. Nothing great. The usual stuff. I might try again next week. But that Renee Zelwiger-looking chick was pretty annoying. I didn't like her too much. I do like Heigl, Oh, and Dempsey, so I'll give it a chance.

sjrab16 03-28-05 11:37 AM

I thought it was just ok. When the male resident promised the wife the husband would make it, I knew that it was a done deal that he would die. It seemed like it was the usual hospital show with the normal stories. Can't wait until they get bored with it, and start having explosions and stuff like ER does now.

Well unless John Wells takes over, I wouldn't expect that.
