Alfred Lutter III as "Tommy Hyatt" in ALICE

Alfred Lutter III was the first Tommy, son of the title character Alice in both the movie and TV series, but he was replaced by Philip McKeon - the Tommy we saw grow up on television.

Anybody know why Alfred Lutter III was replaced after the first few episodes of the TV series?
