ho thye amd ehime dit it

How they made him edit it ????

Shannon Nutt 03-01-05 02:01 PM

Pepsi couldn't have used that footage without permission, so if you have anyone to blame, blame those who gave up the rights to be used in the commercial - whether that be Universal or someone from the Kubrick family.

wow. Bell65, you've got serious anger issues. you need to chill a little bit, lest you end up like your idol, Timothy McVeigh.

Interesting thread. While I don't care myself, it's easy for me to see why this commercial would make some people pop a gasket.

There's a movies talk show on my local NPR station, airs Monday nights. The host said he was "just livid" during this commercial--as were several of his callers...

It makes sense that if you revere Kubrick as a genius--and take seriously the martyrdoms in Spartacus--then you might be offended. Having Spartacus crying over not getting his Pepsi may be funny--if you're detached from the reality of the movie scene--but it's also very crass. He's crying because every man who says "I am Spartacus" is going to be brutally crucified for it, and they're doing it for him.

It would be turning like Schindler's List into a McDonald's commercial. Having the little girl in the red cape running around in the Holocaust looking for her Happy Meal.

Now that would be a commercial.

That's awesome- you get a cookie. But it still doesn't make a whole bunch of sense!!

Gizmo 03-02-05 01:45 PM

Bell65 is crackhead. He must have purposley wrote that inccorectly to prove a point about editing. Man, he sure is smart, and that quote now belongs in a handful of peoples signatures.

You mean that, in deriding him, we have all simply been reinforcing his point? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was just coming in here to make that joke. Duke Phillips did far worse things to this movie than Pepsi ever could. :)

Well, I didn't care for the commercial myself, I don't like it when they insert modern sales stuff into classic films, it's both macabre and cheesy at the same time. It debases the original film somehow, just like when they had Fred Astaire selling vaccuum cleaners or John Wayne selling soda. I don't like this trend, but I'm sure we'll get more of it.

That said, I'm not going to have an aneurysm or anything over it.

"I love you, Spartacus."

(I think that line may be from a different episode, but still one of my favorite Critic quotes.)

Actually, they had the Duke selling Coors, if I remember correctly.

Just rest assured that all of those people who want the Pepsi are going to be crucified along the Appian Way. That'll teach 'em for drinkin' that crap!

POWERBOMB 03-06-05 10:00 PM

I saw the commercial tonight and found nothing wrong with it.....other than it was funny.

Well it is the greatest thread ever! We have this guy who is either on crank with a serious mad on, or who escaped from his room to post on this board! Then he goes off with the angriest post I've seen in a while and follows it up with the most confusing!

And just to stay on topic, I hate Pepsi too, but mostly for its taste.
