First Ever Saturday Night Live to be shown in entirety this weekend 2/27 4am EST
As reported in the paper today. Time below is Chicago...
...so it would be 4am eastern
"Saturday Night Rerun" (3 a.m. central): Here's a historical artifact worth recording: the first episode from Oct. 11, 1975, running a full 90 minutes. You'll quickly note that it's formatted differently than later shows. Host George Carlin did four monologues, while stand-up comedian Valri Bromfield did one. (Billy Crystal walked off when he found out his routine, like Bromfield's, would have to be shortened.) Music acts Janis Ian and Billy Preston did two songs each. Andy Kaufman lip-synched his "Mighty Mouse" shtick. Albert Brooks contributed one of the two short films on the program. The Muppets did their thing. And there were five commercial parodies among the comedy bits from what announcer Don Pardo mistakenly called "The Not For Ready Prime Time Players."

It'll be nice to see one of Brooks' short films again. I always loved those.
It will of course be monumentally depressing to see how great this show once was compared to the crap they've shoveled our way for the past, oh, 22 years...

I'd like to see a few more of these first five shows. It's really strange how different the format is.
Young George Carlin, with long flowing hair and an easy going manner. That looks really strange too.

At 4AM, there's apparently a show about black business in the community.

I watched it an enjoyed most of it. Loved Don Pardos live lips stumbling with "The Not For Ready Prime Time Players". It may have been a planned joke but not likely.
I had forgotten that many of those bits were from the 1st episode. I had only remembered that George Carlin was the host and did some of his stand up. I could have swarn though that he did one of his bits on a stool, but I didn't see that this time. I had also forgotten that they had two musical guests that night. And the first appearance of the "Killer Bees" in "Bees Hospital"
I love the irony of the tripple blade "fake commercial". Back when it originally aired the two blade track system razor blades were just taking off. There was no such thing as a tripple blade razor yet. The first time I saw a gillette commercial for a tripple bladed razor I immediately thought about this Original SNL fake Commercial. Now we a living in a world where there are 4 blade razors. Of course electric razors usually have dozens of tiny little razor blades, or circles of blades for a closer shave.
