Too much big event programming in Feb?
 

The Super Bowl, The Grammys, and the Oscars all in one month?

It dilutes the product.

The Grammys are ok since they have always been in Feb but is nobody is going to die if the Oscars are in March!


They will still get ratings in Jan and March or whatever month they are in.


You could schedule a concert or two for February sweeps.


When was the last time you saw any concerts on network tv?

What's the problem? they are all marketed towards different crowds so I don't see what "product" is being Diluted.

Grammy is more towards music buffs, super bowl is sports fans and oscars are movie fans. I see the difference. I see that having the Oscars in Jan would be tougher since cut off dates for nominations and voting time would be a bit odd.

A concert would be to narrowly marketed. Not everyone has the same taste in music and how many commercial breaks can you really have?

ABC showed a U2 concert a few years back, and it was one of the lowest rated programs of the year.

The scheduling of the Super Bowl and the Oscars have both been moved to Feb [in part] so their broadcasts will be part of the Feb sweeps, and that matters a lot to the networks who are paying mucho dinero for the broadcast rights to these events.

But my question is: What's this "product" that you say is being diluted?

You forgot the biggest event of them all - 60 hours of coverage of Speed Weeks in Daytona. My TiVo runeth over with all the other shows that I'm not watching.

The last great (was it network?) concert was Live Aid and that was long ago. PBS had some good ones. HDNet has the best concerts these days.

Less than me? I doubt it.

But back to the point of the thread:

The Grammys and the Oscars are pointless. I am an enormous fan of both music and movies and could care not one iota about either.

It doesn't really matter what month they are aired in, nor does it matter if they're all crammed into one month. The same people will watch that always watch...
