Just switched to Dish Network and have a question about PVR.

OK, I make the switch to Dish Network (that is until the NFL season kicks off again and then back to DTV) and wanted to know if anyone out there has the PVR 510 or PVR 522. Now I love my Tivo and wanted to know if you can setup season passes on the PVR 510 or 522. I went with the 522 and I believe it has this option. I also picked up two HD receivers for both of my HDTV's. Total price paid Zero! Any info would be great or opinions on the DVR522 vs. DirecTV tivo unit. I know the DTV Tivo will come out ahead but has anyone used both???

I had a 510 and you can't set up a season pass, really. You can search for the show, or find it and click the record botton twice. This will record that time slot on that day every week, or every day depending on what you select.

Keep in mind that if you record Lost, you will need to record the show directly after it as well, so you don't miss the last 2 minutes.

So far, the Season pass is the only real advantage I see to the Tivo. The new 522 (lease only, I believe) is suppose to have a "season pass" type thing, so maybe it is name based instead of time based.

Does the Dish PVR also let you record ONLY new episodes of a show, skipping all repeats?

My 522 does.

The 510 DOES have the coveted 'jump 30 seconds' button.

I love that button. Pause is also nice.

The 522 does have name based recording, it was added via a software update late last year.

Well I have dish network all installed now. One thing I must say about the dish installer he was great and did a great job. He took over 4 hours to make sure everything was working correctly and answered all the questions I had. Now the review on their DVR.
I would have to say it is just a friendly as DirecTV Tivo. The feature I like the most is the 2nd room viewing and the RF remotes. Hands down Dish seems to be the best choice (that is zero out of pocket) vs. DirecTV. Now only if they could get the NFL!?!?!?!? Come football season I will be going back to DirecTV and sign up under my wife's name and get the NFL ticket for free!!:)

Even if Tivo manages to not record repeats, I don't mind deleting a repeat. That is not a great selling point.

I don't mind DTV and Tivo, and will be fine for a year, but in a year, I bet I switch back to Dish.
