Put it this way, i have a "Pending end of season" folder in my HTPC where i put stuff in to watch at a later date and often don't get around to watching

Ok so criteria

a) Long running show, let's say 4 seasons or more

b) You must have invested watching at least 55% of the show's total duration

Here are some of mine

FRINGE - watched all but the last season

NUMBERS - watched all but the last season and a half

NIKITA - a few episodes into Season 3

SUPERNATURAL - got to season 8 ep 5

LEVERAGE - watched all but last season

TORCHWOOD - watched all but last season

CHUCK - watched all but last season and a bit

SHAMELESS UK - watched all but last 2 seasons

LIE TO ME - watched all but last season and 2/3 of season before that

House - Watched all seasons even to the last season, didn't watch the last half of the season.

Desperate Housewives - I think we watched 4 seasons.

Orange is the new Black - 2 episodes into season 2 (just haven't gotten back to it)
Parenthood (should have quit 3 seasons ago)
Orphan Black - lost interest 5-6 episodes into its first season, will revisit it soon.
Once Upon a Time - 2 seasons ago
Under the Dome - 1 season ago
The Leftovers - quit after about 5 episodes into its first season
American Horror Story - quit after season 1
Nurse Jackie - about 2-3 seasons ago
None of those shows except True Blood are completely finished. Parenthood isn't done yet, but it's currently in it's final season. Also, a few of those aren't even long-running.

Seems like a few here are misinterpreting what Desmond was asking in his OP. This isn't a shows I once watched, but quit thread. This is long-running (not airing anymore) shows that I didn't quite finish for whatever reason thread.

Now that I think about it, I have four more episodes of Boardwalk Empire to watch. I'll probably finish that out this week.

Re: Long Running Shows you Didn't quite get to the End of

Fringe is the big one for me. I usually finish shows I enjoy, and that was one I really enjoyed but given the season lengths and narrative complexity I just kind of dropped it the last season or two. I really want to watch that one again though.

Other shows that come to mind, which I stopped watching because I thought they were just bad are:

Californication
Weeds
True Blood (still airing, haven't watched last season)
American Horror Story (stopped half way through season 3, no interest in 4)

I'm sure there are others, but not many. I usually want to see how the story ends unless the show really goes off the rails. I even finished Dexter, which was a real labor of love the last few seasons.

Grey's Anatomy. It's the only show I've ever dropped. Even my OCD couldn't keeping me watching it after the second season.

Boardwallk Empire: Loved the first two seasons, and thought the 3rd season was OK. Still haven't watched season 4 & 5.

Weeds: Loved the first few seasons, but then it got real bad. Made it to the end of Season 6, but had no interest in the last 2 seasons. I actually skipped to the finale, and realized I didn't miss much.

Family Ties: Loved this show as a kid, but once they made Andy grow 5 years between seasons, the show jumped the shark. Never watched the last 2 seasons.

Wonder Years: Loved the first few seasons, but never watched the last 2 seasons.

Coach: One of my favorite shows, but he got bad once he left Minnesota and coached the Orlando Expansion Team.

I'm over halfway through season 4 and I just don't care anymore. I keep checking the old threads here and everyone still loves it, so it's got to be me, right?

My problem is there is just very characters I really care about, as the show is more about the time period, IMO.

Spoiler:
Once they killed off Jimmy Darmandy, I think the show lost alot because he was the one likeable character.

It's a very interesting show as I love that time period, but it just doesn't compare to a show like The Sopranos when it comes to characters. Soprano's had great characters all around, where Boardwalk Empire has it's interesting and not so interesting characters.

Re: Long Running Shows you Didn't quite get to the End of

- CSI Original, New York, Miami
- Burn Notice
- Smallville
- Lost
- Fringe
- Nikita (CW Version, missed the final short season 4, will grab it if it is a sale title on BF)
- Entourage (missed at least most of the final season)
- House

There are plenty of others, but the above immediately came to mind. I assume we are only talking about shows that were cancelled not ones that are still on the air.

I hung with Buffy off and on until season 6, it got so dark and depressing that I eventually bailed. I'll go back to it one day. I think Whedon jumped ship as showrunner to go work on Firefly and gave the reigns over to Noxon.

Never finished the last season of Friday Night Lights for some reason. Watched the first 3 or 4 episodes then just never got around to watching the rest and forgot about it. I did like the show and want to catch the rest on Netflix at some point.

I blame the cough medicine I've been hopped up on for the past week, but even so, to me, these shows are "finished" (to me) but I still watched a good chunk of the episodes and still bailed.

Odd, because I didn't find that character very likeable at all.

I really don't stop watching shows once I have been watching them for years.

The only way this applies if trying a series on DVD or Netflix and not being able to finish it for whatever reason.

Starting a show and just stopping? Nope.

That is the worst decision I've seen in this thread. The last season of The Shield is possibly the greatest send-off for a long-running series in the history of television. The final three hours are some of the most powerful television I've ever seen, and I hate most cop shows.

Watch that pronto, you won't regret it.

Watch the behind the scenes special when you're done. I thought it was really interesting.

I've still been watching it, and the only reason I'm watching this season is because it's the last. So far it is REALLY bad. Only thing that could probably save it is if they did manage to bring Charlie back.

Re: Long Running Shows you Didn't quite get to the End of

Watched all of The Office until the season after Carell left, then gave up. I also stopped watching DS9 after Terry Farrell flew the coop. Aaaaand never finished Babylon 5 because they kept moving it around in my schedule and I could never figure out when it was on (in the era before DVRs).

Re: Long Running Shows you Didn't quite get to the End of

Dexter - stopped at the end of the Julia Stiles season, I think.
Office - stopped at some random point, well before Carrell left.
Six Feet Under - I literally have like 2 episodes left...
Heroes - After it went downhill, I stopped watching, then tried to catch up. I think I'm at the end of S3.
Dead Zone - LOVED this show, but trailed off. I think I have about 1.5 seasons to go.
24 - I haven't watched the latest season, despite watching the first episode (of the season) when it aired and loving it.
Gray's Anatomy - For whatever reason, I thought Season 1 was compelling. I think I watched some of S2, but then the show just got terrible. Even my wife stopped watching it.
