More like a mid to late 20s Caruso. I've never seen the TJ Hooker episode, but I first saw him in First Blood and An Officer and a Gentleman (also from the early 80s) and couldn't believe I was actually seeing him young and non-haggard looking.

no shades. he was a punk on a dirt bike that was setting buildings on fire
but he wore his helmet almost all the time
