Jason Lee To Headline NBC Sitcom...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Jason Lee, a frequent collaborator with filmmaker Kevin Smith, has been tapped to play the title role in the NBC comedy pilot, "My Name Is Earl."

The show centers on a low-rent crook (Lee) who, after winning the lottery, decides to use his limited yet oddly effective intelligence to right the wrongs he has made in his life.

Lee's work with Smith includes "Mallrats," "Chasing Amy" and "Dogma."
I can't get enough Jason Lee. This gets big from me.

This actually doesn't sound like a sitcom, but rather an hour long comedy.

For some reason I'm getting a "Cupid" vibe from this. Remember that show (with Jerermy Piven)? That was great, and this sounds good too.

As long as the point of the show isn't "Hey look folks, it's Jason Lee! Isn't he a funny guy?", but rather a well-written, funny show with Jason Lee as the star, it might go somewhere. Star power can only be ridden so far, and then somebody's gotta pony up some scripts.

I don't think Jason Lee has much "star power" outside of the ViewAskew fans. He's been in a ton of stuff, but still has eluded being a household name.

Yep. But unless it ends up like "Committed" [or if the promos are half as bad], i'm there.

Come to think of it, I'd rather have Jason Lee play the part of Nate on Committed.

Screw "My Name Is Earl." Let's see Jason Lee in "The Jeff Bebe Show!" That would be awesome!

Same here, I thought he would be perfect for a part like that, a less self-confident version of Brodie would work very well there.

As I've said several times on this very board, I'm a huge Jason Lee fan. I'll be watching if this thing gets picked up.

If the girl would just use her normal voice (as we saw in CJ) it would be much easier to watch.

I like his work, but I saw him on the Carson Daly show a couple years ago, of all things. He came off as really pretentious. He went on and on about how he doesn't sell out, like he's never done a bad movie. You're saying that on the Carson Daly show, you tool! I hope he has since gotten over himself.

How the hell Van fucking Wilder got famous for being a low-budget Jason Lee is beyond me. And he's bangin' Alanis. The terrible unfairness of the world.

I'll bet he shouts. A lot.

Unfortunately, it'll probably suck as most of the networks seem to have given up on the sitcom as a format. But I'll watch the first couple out of loyalty to the Broadieman.

Some new info from TheFutonCritic thanks to http://www.newsaskew.com/includes/fe...E&style=single

The Futon Critic is reporting that more castings have been made in the new Jason Lee sitcom pilot, "My Name Is Earl", and believe it or not, another familiar face has joined the fun:

EARL (NBC) - Ethan Suplee ("Without a Paddle"), Nadine Velazquez ("Entourage") and Eddie Steeples ("Torque") have all been cast in the Jason Lee-led comedy pilot, about a low-rent crook who, after winning the lottery, decides to use his limited yet oddly effective intelligence to right the wrongs he has made in his life. Suplee will play Earl's brother, Randy, while Velazquez is set as hotel maid Tatiana with Steeples as Earl's friend Darnell. Jaime Pressly also stars as Earl's ex-wife. In addition, Marc Buckland ("Cracking Up") has come aboard to direct and executive produce the pilot, which comes from 20th Century Fox Television and creator Greg Garcia.

A capsule review of an early draft of the pilot episode is forthcoming. It'll be a lot more interesting to re-read the script with these faces now in mind. A sitcom with TWO View Askew vets on board in regular roles? How 'bout that!

He won't be able to carry a sitcom. He'll yell every line. the writing will probably be shit and in a few years people here will be looking forward to the dvd set and trying to get me to sign their stupid petition.

he didn't shout all his lines in Mumford, did he?

Of course, I slept through most of it, too.
