Cool! Maybe this means cheap season boxsets so I can catch up!
|
The franchise needs a rest and B&B need to start looking for new jobs.
I'd love to see a new series based around the time frame of the Ent-B in Generations. I wanna see those cool "red shirt" uniforms on a weekly series. They need to fill in the time frame between the classic movie era and what I dub the "Ambassador-class era". Basically tell how the universe evolved after the Kitomer Accords and the war between the Klingons and the Romulans. |
Oh my God, a world without Star Trek? Isn't that one of the signs of the apocalypse?!!!
|
Well at least they waited for the show to decline in ratings. Didn't Sci-Fi cancel Farscape when it still had strong ratings and a pretty big audience.

Actually, something like Starfleet Legal might actually be a winner....
...or it would suck big ones. Not sure which. :D |

Well, this goes to show what an idiot I am...I figured there would be no way UPN would make a decision until they got some numbers on the DVD sales and looked at the overall ratings for this past year.
I understand why some people are upset at the decision, and I feel bad for all involved with the show, let's face it - Paramount has oversaturated us with Star Trek stuff for a good 10 to 15 years now...let's take a break for five years or so, release a new theatrical film and then see what the fan base is like. It's going to take most of us that long anyway to catch up with all the DS9, Voyager and Enterprise shows we never got around to seeing. :) |

Hey, aren't Paramount and CBS both owned by Viacom?
"Coming this fall, from producer Jerry Bruckheimer: 'CSI: UFP'!" |

I was never into Star Trek much (aside from the films or catching the occasional episode of Next Gen.) but I watched Enterprise weekly from day 1. So where do I go from here? Should I go through Next Gen. from the start? Or should I jump to Deep Space 9?

If you're not going to watch both: DS9 would be my choice. :D |
Long live Battlestar Galactica!!!
Seriously, if you need a good scifi fix, check out BG on Fridays. The series is soooo much better than Enterprise and really needs support to get to a second season. I gave up on Enterprise a year ago - really tried to like it but just couldn't. The writing was on the wall after it barely got picked up after last season and they pretty much came out and said that it was only so that they could get enough episodes for syndication. Ron Moore is doing @ BG what he was never allowed with ST and while it does have its flaws, its success might lead to more "smart" scfi, not watered-down Enterprise crap. |

I do like Enterprise, but that could be partly because I was never a dedicated Trek fan. I recognize the show is not as good as it could be -- last season was hard to get through. |
I hope they have time to do a decent finallie to wrap it up and not leave us with a cliffhanger.
As a Star Trek fan, I just have to say that I have mixed emotions about Enterprise being cancelled. In a way i'm kind of glad because hopefully it will lead to a new better series. Even with the improvements Enterprise had made over the last two seasons, it is still, by far, the weakest of the Trek series. I watch and tape it every week, and will buy the dvds, but to me it has never really looked or felt like the Star Trek I know and love. Enterprise you are the weakest link. Goodbye. |
It seems like deja vu all over again. The original season was a marginal hit until it was placed on Friday nights (albeit a later time slot) and Enterprise was canceled after it was moved to Friday.
Note to future spin offs, don't accept a Friday timeslot. -screwy- For all the plusses of this current season, I am ready for Trek to take a break. Wait a while and maybe someone can get an original idea and reinvigorate the Trek franchise. I can hardly believe that this news does not even suprise me, and I have been a fan since I was a 9 year old watching the original run of the original series. Guess it is time for a break. |

Anybody have any Zoloft? :(
I'll post more this evening when I calm down. Meanwhile, does anybody have information on contacting Scifi or Paramount - phone number preferably? |

The problem I had with Trek during the '90s is that they tried to do two shows at once. I had every intention of following DS9, but when VOY started two years later my brain almost exploded and I quit watching. Luckily the DVDs have given me a chance to see these series. (I still have the last two seasons of VOY sitting on the shelf unwatched.)
And even though I have only really seen the pilot episode of ENT, I'll probably buy the DVD sets coming out this year. It's kind of funny really on the difference of reaction on this BBS from that on the TrekBBS. People are Pissed (with a capital P) at the TrekBBS, but the people here are more understanding and not as surprised. The difference over there is that lots of people enjoyed Star Trek for its utopian socialist political future, while I enjoy Trek just for the sci-fi part of it. |

Personally, I'm disappointed that B&B got 10 seasons to destroy the franchise, and Coto barely gets half of one to try and make sense of the mess, but it won't keep me up at night, because while I'd like to see some success, the franchise desperately needs to die. It's been incredibly painful watching its decline over the years, and I'm relieved that we can finally put away the crash cart and let it go in peace. I just hope to God this really is an ending. I'm more than open to a new beginning, but you cannot start anew unless you actually end in the first place. Let this be an end ... please. das |
