Simpsons 01/30/05

No Simpsons thread? WTF? Or did search just not pick it up?

I watched it a couple of times yesterday, and nothing really stuck with me. Decent episode, but nothing extraordinary.

Question asked on first line, answered on second. ;)

Ralph Wiggum 01-31-05 12:41 PM

That was at least the third time they've used the "improve Moe's" as a plotline. Lazy-ass writers.

movieking 01-31-05 12:44 PM

But isn't it only the second time he's fallen in love with Marge? Well, he has hit on her in a number of episodes though.

The Antipodean 01-31-05 03:27 PM

Yeah, a funny episode but the well of story ideas seems to be running a bit thin. I remember the "Moe's family restaurant" angle way back when and the "Moe's as a yuppie bar," plus you could always throw "Flaming Moe's" in there and say this the fourth time an episode has focused on Moe's being revamped. Still some funny bits, but nothing to write home about.

Artman 01-31-05 08:43 PM

Since when have they started using drunken Barney again?

Bill Needle 01-31-05 09:12 PM

I don't mind recurring ideas (to put it nicely), when they are funny. But the Moe/Bar/Marge idea was fairly thin the first time. Moe is fabulous in his role (ie, great line about the suicide hotline blocking his number), but too thin for carrying an entire show.

A couple of laughs but nothing memorable. I agree that Moe-centric episodes usually don't work, but they are better than the Lisa-centric ones:D

Damfino 02-01-05 02:21 AM

The funniest bit was a sight gag that featured Scratchy giving Ralph Wiggum a wedgie!

TheKing 02-01-05 03:50 AM

I thought it had a classic Simpsons feel to the episode, like it would fit in well with episodes from seasons 7 and 8, if not 3-6. I love that they pulled Itchy & Scratchyland out after a decade, and the baloon race ending was a nice out of place sequence that they did so often in the early seasons so well.

Groucho 02-01-05 07:32 AM

The bit with Surly was great.

grim_tales 02-01-05 07:57 AM

I havent really been watching the episodes on Channel 4 (seen them on Sky 1 before ;) ) - I agree about some "Moe" storylines being revisited though but the "Moes as Family Restaurant" episodes and "Flaming Moes" are hilarious IMO. (Though to be fair Moe isnt the primary focus of the family restaurant one).

Havent they also done the "Sideshow Bob Scheme" storyline 4/5 times?
Interestingly, you may remember an epsiode from Season 4 (the one with Marge/Homer at the High School), Marge meets her old boyfriend Artie Ziff and he says to Homer: "I'm stinking rich - jealous?"
Homer: I bet you'd trade it all for one night with my wife
Artie: I would.

And he did, in a future episode spoofing Indecent Proposal :D

I thought this was a better than most of the episodes in the past few seasons. I was laughing my butt off at Duffman at the eulogy for Moe's. Admittedly, they've re-done this storyline a few times, but as long as they come up with a new twist, I've got no problem with that. I'd like to see them bring back Hank Scorpio.

MovieMaster11 02-02-05 12:23 AM

It was hilarious when Homer was thinking about what marge would say about the decision and in his thought bubble was Moe dressed as Marge

dcprules 02-02-05 12:43 AM

I thought it was kinda funny. I liked the trailer for Cards. They should do more stuff like that.

Hope the after Superbowl episode will be great.

"I'm Jerkass Homer!"

A big fat "HA-HA!" to all the internet haters that claim to be Simpson fans (but only of seasons 4-5-6). HA-HA!!!

pezboy 02-03-05 02:33 PM

Duffman gets more laughs the less he says.

"Oh Yeah!" = funny

*silent pelvis thrust* = brilliant
