 I turned this on the other night for the first time in probably a year and a half. Watched about 20 minutes before I couldn't take anymore. Dreadful. Weekend Update is and always will be the strongest part of the show for me, unless Colin Quinn is the anchor, and I did enjoy it the other night.

There's really nothing I could add to this list.

Just pretend I mentioned some of the shows followed with my usual witty, sarcastic and humorous commentary.

Well hell, thanks for pointing it out in your opion that I am a loser. I have been watching AFV since it started. I think it is a good family show that lets us all laugh for an hour on Sunday night. Is there anything wrong with that? Besides it's better than all the other crap in the 6pmCST time slot. BTW I have never sent in a video.

Tandem 01-24-05 05:05 PM

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the "Big Joe Polka Show".

To quote Ms Kerrigan, "Why? Why? Why?"

Unfortunately for me though, people at my work seem to talk about Seinfeld more than ever now. I was a very overratted show.

Not that I don't think an average overweight dude can't get hot chick, but those shows piss me off as well, I just don't buy it.

Hell No.....I actually think this is one of the best shows on TV. Have you ever even watched the show. Its very witty and does a good job about showing high schoolers, but also putting a heart with its message.

I like it too. Good for a few laughs every time it's on. And like you said, it's good family entertainment.

I also really enjoy King of Queens, which someone else mentioned. Oh well...

1.) The thread title isn't asking if you feel you are a smarter person because you don't like _____ show. If it did, you would both be right on the money.

2.) Popular does not equal good. Shows have production values. Good acting, writing, directing, original ideas. Not every show exhibits these traits.

3.) So between you two, there isn't a single bad show on tv? Not a single show that hasn't jumped the shark and is past its prime? I find that VERY hard to believe. So contribute or move along.

Wooderson, don't feel like it was a personal attack on you. I just don't get it(AFV). SG-1 is one of my favorite shows. It always gets trashed on this forum, even got a nod in this thread. Do I care? No. This is a place for opinions. That is the way it goes. It is just an open discussion.

nevermind 01-24-05 10:16 PM

Well I'm not getting into this already heated argument about scripted vs. reality. Nosireebob!

That said, of the shows I actually watched at least once, I have to go with Point Pleasant. I know it's been 5 days or so, but it's 5 days too long. What a stinker.

It's actually more like:

Why is Point Pleasant still on the air, yet Tru Calling got the axe?

Now, back to your regularly scheduled arguing :D

There are plenty of bad or tired shows, both reality and scripted. The thing is, if I think a show is bad or tired, I don't watch it, so what difference does it make to me that it's still on the air?

Malcolm kinda jumped the shark this year by having Lois go to Afghanistan to save Reese. It's recovered a bit, some of the other episodes have been decent this year, but that moment really messed the show up.

LiquidSky 01-25-05 07:38 AM

Most reality shows like The Bachelor, and those idiots Paris and Nicole, et al.
Everyone Loves Raymond
SNL
American Idol

*************

I'm still scratching my head wondering how "Friends" lasted that long and how mediocre at best actors got one million per episode.

I'd say my TV experience for the week involves Seinfeld re-runs, Lost, Alias and the rest of the time I watch DVD's. TV sucks.

"
Well I'm not getting into this already heated argument about scripted vs. reality. Nosireebob!"

They are all scripted. Especially the reality shows. (except cops) I watched a documentary on real world. They said the little confessional room was actually a chair in a studio in front of a blue screen, with a producer asking questions and trying to piss of the cast member by saying things like, did you hear what so and so said about you. Total b/s.

latenight 01-25-05 08:45 AM

I need to figure out how to use this quote thingy

MSN had an article on this very subject. Apparently some experts feel that women enjoy watching, attractive, intelligent and business savy women boss around and generally make look bad the fat loser husband. (if they were so smart how did they end up marrying them in the first place) The men enjoy watching these shows (I don't ) because it makes them feel that they have a chance to marry an attractive woman. (I take that as an insult)

Groucho 01-25-05 08:57 AM

The easiest way to use the quote function is to click the button at the bottom of the post you are quoting. The problem with your post above is that you have no closing
bracket.

There aren't many shows where the husband is smarter than the wife. Only one I can think of is King of the Hill.

For the King of Queens, all the male viewers used to be jealous of Doug. Now they feel sorry that the character is married to a house. ;)

..... i guess i am watching a new show now...

Vampirella 01-25-05 06:09 PM

The Simpsons needs to be put to sleep.

I adore the classic episodes, and can watch them till the cows come home, but it went downhill after the "Who shot Mr Burns" saga. Aside from a couple of exceptions (like the episode where Homer thought Bart might be gay), the show is now dire.

I can recall an episode where Homer got his car clamped because he left it in a restricted zone while looking for a toilet. Several minutes seemed to be dedicated to him finding a lav, and relieving himself when he was victorious. This whole episode had to be THE most unfunny thing on TV EVER, and was an insult to the show. It was round about this time that I lost hope in the Simpsons, and haven't been a regular viewer since.

Matt Groening should be satisfied with the millions he's made, and put the show out of its misery - for all our sakes.

Umm, OK... I guess it's different because you say they have "simple senses of humor" and refer to their tastes as "mindless"...

I guess I just agree more with Charlie Goose:

 Gave up on Friends a few seasons before the end (at the show where I caught myself thinking "I can't keep track of who's sleeping with whom..." ), but I never questioned why it was still on the air; it was because a bunch of people whose tastes are different than mine (perfectly fine by me, just different) still loved it. If it's "what shows have jumped the shark or have passed their prime" (like someone suggested), that's a different question! :D

I couldn't disagree more.

I think it is a common mistake for people to compare a show to itself. A below average Simpsons episode is still far better than most of the dreck listed in this very thread. Compare any Simpson's episode to the best episodes of "The Swan" and see what you think. And "The Swan II" might be what goes in the slot opened by a recently cancelled Simpsons.

Also, the episode you cite had some extremely funny moments, such as Homer's battle with the wheel boot, and the great throw-away quote, "Less chat, more splat."

From your critique it sounds like you only enjoyed the first few seasons, making me wonder why you are still watching 10 years later? -wink- No offense meant, I just hear a lot of "fashionable" Simpsons bashing from people who, when pressed, don't miss an episode. I can certainly understand wishing it was better. But hey, what show couldn't you say that about?
