can anyone help me ID this show?

I can't remember the title of this show I saw on PBS (I think) once....

can anyone help me?

1. for some reason I think it may have been a Canadian show....

2. the setting was an office of some sort.....possibly related to the entertainment industry somehow but i could be mixing that detail up with something else

3. it was a comedy/sitcom type show....but i don't remember an audience or laugh track so it may not have had one...

4. the episode I saw had something to do with a boss type figure tricking everyone into participating in a teamwork building activity of some sort....

any ideas?

Uh....The Office?

There was a teamwork-buidling-activity episode in the first season.

clckworang 01-17-05 05:45 PM

Certainly sounds like The Office to me.

Made in Canada?

The episode you remember may have been S03E07 -- the aptly titled "Teamwork"

Spoiler:
Alan has a nightmare about someone smashing a pyramid with a hammer in the company boardroom. He charges Veronica with organising a team building weekend. The entire office however is completely apathetic to the idea including Alan, who five minutes after ordering her on the Team Building quest announces he can't make it.
At Veronica's request Alan hires Angela Windstrom to take over a few administrative responsibilities while he focuses on the creative. Within her first day Angela appoints four new vice presidents over Richard and Victor. As the week moves on Angela appoints another ten vice presidents. The trio has to team up in order to get the new Vice Presidents to resign, and it is soon after revealed that Angela and the others are from a company that specialises in team building excersises.

thanks!
that sounds exactly like the episode I saw....

quite ironic that the name of the show is "Made In Canada" lol....

garmonbozia 01-17-05 07:28 PM

TVTome says this:

Made in Canada is a program about the trials of a Canadian media company (Pyramid / Prodigy Productions). The show is incredibly satirical, and extremely funny. Made In Canada airs on CBC, and was airing on Bravo in the US under the name "The Industry"
I think when I caught that episode on PBS, it was called "The Industry"....
I know this was definitely the show now as that title really rings a bell...

It says on that site that season 1 is on dvd, but I am not finding it on Amazon or dvdpricesearch....

Does anyone know anything about this dvd?

garmonbozia 01-17-05 07:33 PM

nevermind....
I found this: http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006D2AC

it appears it is a canadian exclusive dvd....
I need to get this....now I just need to find the best price.

The dvd recommended with that dvd on amazon.ca looks interesting as well, "The Newsroom". Anyone familiar with that show?

I was just about to pipe in with "The Newsroom". That's the one. It's a masterful show, but some of humour will be lost on non-Canadians.
The original show ran from 1996-98, but since then the show's creator and star, Ken Finkelman, has revived the show a couple of times, and it continues on CBC in a few weeks. Unfortunately, it is not as funny anymore, as several of the original cast members have moved on, and Finkelman's writing has lost its edge.

The initial 13-part series is near-perfect, with the exception of 3 connected episodes near the end of the season that are a pretentious and tiresome homage to Fellini.

By all means, pick it up on DVD.

well, it seems to now be out of print unfortunately....
however, I did find one or two canadian etailers saying that they have it in stocl to ship within a day or two....but my experience with canadian etailers is that they are HORRIBLE in keeping their stock information accurate.....
so, I did order a copy but who knows if i'll actually get one.....
if all else fails....i did happen to see a copy in a B&M store (I was shocked to see a Canadian exclusive dvd on the shelf) just a day or two after I placed the order....so I can always go back and try to get that one if it never ships.....

The Newsroom is absolutely hysterical. I agree with Norm de Plume that it tails a little bit at the end, but that didn't stop me from picking up the DVD set when it came out early last year.

I'm not Canadian, but I still found it funny.

Another thumbs up for The Newsroom. Even the ending has a few fun moments - annoyingly pretentious but so is the main character.

And another vote The Industry (as it was called on PBS stations). A terrific parody of the entertainment media.

It's not out of print, just out of stock. Check the amazon.ca website. I agree with you about Canadian DVD etailers; my experiences with them haven't been great, but amazon is reliable.

I'll give another thumb's up for newsroom one of the funniest show's I have ever seen because I could relate to the Intern on it it far too much (I used to be an Intern on a News/Entertainment show)
