Chris Farley's a genius

Everytime he's on SNL i know i'll be expecting comedy gold. Unlike others who i like certain bits that they do, Farley can do anything and i still laugh, not just cute laugh, but a serious laugh (kind of a paradox??), like a real laugh. He's also my favorite long term cast member, i do recall he was in it as early as David Spade and up to Ferrell's days.

When Farley was a boyfriend on the Melrose Place sketch replying to Mike Myers' questions: "What are you trying to say?" "i'm saying i had sex with your girlfriend in various positions for hours" "What are you getting at?" constantly waving his large beach boy "Ace Venturish" hair-do back.

Even when he's serious, playing the cameraman part on a morning show with Ferrell and Cheri Oteri when Farley hosted SNL, every single time they cut to him i laugh so hard.

Oteri: -biggrin- When did you run into Will Smith?

Farley: I ran into Will Smith over the weekend. -biggrin-

Oteri: When did you run into Will Smith, when did you run into him? -biggrin-

Farley: :whofart: ..... OVER THE WEEKEND YOU STUPID BITCH!

I do miss him and good SNL episodes.

He was a great actor, I thought he was friggin hilarious, when he was the bus driver, in a scene in billy madison, that was just classic.. see the movie if you havent, to see what i mean..

I know I'm in the minority, but I didn't find him anything spectacular. There were a few skits that are now classic (Chippendales, Slitz Gay, Motivational speaker). But for the rest, he just tried to hard and everything seemed forced to me. Didn't find any of his movies all that great either. Kinda meh. Take it or leave it. Way overrated, IMO.

I think sometimes he relied too much on being the fat guy yelling and going crazy to be funny, but most of the time he was hilarious...

one of my top 10 from SNL all time I would say

Wasn't smart enough to stay away from the drugs.

You think?

One of my last favorite memories was Farley doing a guest spot on snl before he died. He appeared in a skit about the "super bears fans" in which he is told by Ditka that he no longer coaches the bears, he coaches the saints, and they suck.

As opposed to him doing a guest spot after he died?

Farley was a decent physical comedian, but that's about it. He was certainly no actor, but he was a fat guy willing to take off his shirt or go through a table. I wonder how he would've matured as a performer if he hadn't shit his life away on drugs.

I think people who don't know Chris Farley shouldn't be talking about him!

From "Tales of Little Women:"

Toby Adams (Farley): [sounds of ice cracking, followed by screaming] Gooooodd!!! Oh, my Gooooooddddd! Sonofabitch! Ohhhhhh!! Sonoabitch!! I can't feel my legs! Oh, Mother of God, help me! Don't just STAND there! DO something, you bastards!! Pull me out of this icy hell, you little pillow biter!

The Breakfast wrote a song about Chris Farley.. lyrics below. you can hear a sample of it on amazon...

@ Beef Barley

Everyone come along while we sing this song
Remembering a funny man
A real big guy always on the fly
Making all the people laugh
Comedian that he was got moving like a two ton bus
But going that fast I guess he had to crash
Never wanting to lose his buzz

Beef Barley

Now he's passed and left our realm
Into a world of good
Genius he was too strange for us
Always misunderstood
So wild was his soul not even he had control
Now he is free silly as can be
In our hearts and memories

Everyone come along while we sing this song
Remembering big beef barley
Smiles this man brought to this land
Give it up for big beef barley

He lived in a van down by the river
Herlihy Boy's dad
One of the gap girls looking real bad
Got hit with a crotch bat
He might of been a black sheep
But he played a good loaf of meat
Like a big bright star he shined all the time
Leaving a legacy

Beef Barley

Why did he have to leave so early?
