Battlestar Galactica, the *NEW* New Epic Series????

:johnwoo:
OLD December.... now the question is Boomer....see my April 13 post below!

Ok, so someone tell me, what is the difference between this new release later this month:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...161971-4626431
and the release from last year of:
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=9073
:hscratch: :hscratch: :hscratch: :hscratch:

The only thing I can guess is that the *new* version doesn't have the Psylon head shaped box.... anyone have any ideas?

(Cylon)

I thought this has been out for awhile (without the 3-D head) and scheduled for a price drop in Feb?

I got my original Battlestar Galactica set - the one that came in the big Cylon helmet box - back when it first came out, and paid $79.99 at Best Buy, on a Circuit City price match (CC was out of stock.)

So I don't feel too bad about that.

The smaller box release is just a re-release for a price drop. This set originally came out last January. I bought mine via Ebay during the summer for $50 + shipping. The Cylon head big box set came out sometime in the early fall of '03 I think.

Someone suggested to me that this may have previews of the 2004 (and upcoming 2005) Battlestar Galactica..... :) anyone heard similar? :hscratch:

Councelor 12-26-04 11:04 PM

Oh, and the new SciFi Channel series starts January 15th, 2005 I believe!

If you look at the previews for this upcoming season, she (Boomer) is seen saying approximately "But I am afraid of hurting someone"...... an insight into here Cylon side? :hscratch:

I've been watching the new series and IT IS GREAT. I''m sorry, but it is a worthy remake. Now if Hollywood could make their remakes as good. I'n seen the first 10 eps!

Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!

At first I was kind of disappointed in the "re-imagning" when it aired on Sci-Fi last year. Last night I rented the DVD and reviewed it and can say that my opinion of it has elevated.
Basically, the old series was about late 70s cheese with some space battles to boot. This one really seems to look more into the Science Fiction aspect of the story. Granted, I feel it is a variation on the original mixed with "Blade Runner", but at least you don't look at a future movie and say "I remember when those were in style" when you see the hair and clothing. I will say that I don't care for Starbuck being a woman, or Boomer (though she is easier on the eyes than Starbuck), but it makes it more updated I guess.

Here's hoping the new series gives us more intellgent stories and not just eye candy.

Also there are other differences (I'm sure I missed some):

-- The 70s Cylons were named after their creaters, a race of reptilians.....these Cyclons we created.... :frankie:

-- The 70s Cylons were just had blasters and whatnot to fight us, these Cylons are ultimate hackers....

-- The 70s Cylons had a vastly different Baltar (not getting to too much specifics for those who have not seen the promo).

-- And the expected stuff:
-- 2004 Cylons can hit what they shoot at
-- 2004 Cylons use Nukes
-- 2004 Cylons are just nastier!

I like the new series, but after watching the DVD I think the deleted scenes should have been finished and edited into the show.

The one where Boomer's ship comes in and makes a crash landing on the deck should have been finished and reinserted because the following scene doesn't make sense without it.

The Apollo missile chase sequence through the mountainous planet would have been a cool finished shot.

I met Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) at a convention last summer, and I will tell you that in person, she is stunningly beautiful . . . and extremely nice and funny.

Et Tu Boomer? What now?

Given the season finale, :johnwoo: and the poll from December 04 in which 40.63% thought she was a Cyclon, 18.75% thought she was not, and 34.38% thought she would be a good Cyclon, what do you all think now?

I think she's a sexually confused Cylon. :D

Why is this in DVD Talk and not TV Talk? Also, when will this first wave hit shelves?

In terms of Katiebuck, she has grown on me immensely.
