Rudolph is on tonight (12.01)!

CELEBRATE RUDOLPH'SŪ 40TH ANNIVERSARY WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1, 8PM ET/PT

Let the reindeer games begin with the 40th anniversary broadcast of RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEERŪ, the longest-running holiday special in television history. This digitally re-mastered classic has entertained millions of families since 1964, with the world-renowned musical score from Johnny Marks and the voice talent of legendary performer Burl Ives (Sam the Snowman).

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEERŪ recounts the tale of a shy, young reindeer whose Christmas spirit is dampened because his shiny red nose has made him the laughing stock of all Christmastown. Frustrated by their inability to fit in, Rudolph and his friend Hermey, the Elf who wants to be a dentist, set out on their own. However, they soon find themselves pursued by the Abominable Snowmonster. They flee to the island of Misfit Toys in the Arctic wilderness where Yukon Cornelius, a prospector they meet along the way, comes to their rescue. Returning to Christmastown, they learn that bad weather may cause Christmas to be canceled. But Rudolph's headlight--his illuminated nose--saves Christmas by serving as a beacon to guide Santa's sleigh.

I'm capping this off CBS right now. One less DVD to buy. Plus ABC family is playing all the rest of the Rankin/Bass shows all month long, so I can get all the shows I watched year after year as a kid.

Haven't seen this for a couple of years. I do remember watching the sadistic elf at the end.

After Santa picks up the "misfit toys" on the island, he takes off to make his deliveries.

The elf on the sleigh gives each toy an umbrella to float down to the ground with; EXCEPT for one.

When be pulls out the bird who can not fly, only swim, you see the elf look mischieviously around to make sure no one is watching, then throw the bird over his shoulder (without an umbrella) and most likely to his death.

Remember watching for this year after my brother pointed it out to me. Even funnier after playing the Rudolph drinking game for an hour.

Plus did you also realise that the costumes in the recent Will Farrell movie "Elf" were patterned after the costumes the elves wear in this show?

When I was a kid, Christmas just wasn't Christmas until I saw Rudolph.

As a kid, I always looked forward to the Charlie Brown specials and the Rankin/Bass Specials. Nothing else on TV can quite compare these days.

Watched Lost. Have Rudolph on DVD.

Its almost time to whip out the first Mr. Hankey episode and Emmet Otter. Christmas just isn't Christmas without watching those.
