I padded my TiVo recording with five minutes on the end. I get to see the whole show, too!

No kidding. It was like an UnSteadiCam.

is this foreshadowing?
Watership Down. I don't know anything about the book, though.

The island granted another wish Jack was trying to find his father and he did...well his casket anyway.

Did anyone notice the mistake at the beginning? When Hurley and Charlie run to talk to Jack in the tent, the two extras walk by TWICE behind Jack. You see them walk behind him one time, they cut to Hurley and Jack and then when they cut to Jack again they walk behind him again hehe.

This was definitely the weakest episode so far, and the castaways are really starting to piss me off.

It's been 6 days for them, and they're still just hanging around the beach. A few of them know someone is broadcasting from the island, but they haven't seen fit to go look for it. Hmm... people used to be here, there's power to run the transmitter... could there be a water supply with all that? Instead of looking for it, let's just complain about a few empty bottles of water and otherwise sit on our asses.

Since this is speculation, I'm not going to spoiler it...but I think the purgatory theories that people have been throwing around (or a state of limbo...whatever you prefer) are holding up.

The people on the island see something or do something that will help their passage into the next life. Example: if Jack hadn't rescued that other guy in the water, he probably would have been "killed" - sending him to the next plane (no pun intended!) of existance. When Jack finally caught up with his father, he almost fell off a cliff and died, if not for Locke saving him.

That being said, I did think last night's show was the weakest of the ones we've seen so far...

Given the fact that the plane has provided all they need up until this episode and the jungle runs the risk of encountering the, um, "monster", I have no problem with what they've done so far. Now that we have the "we need to start acting like we won't get rescued" speech, I fully expect that all to change now and they'll start looking for those things.

They can't all be gems. Still more entertaining than most shows.

Did the blonde girl bring any clothes to Australia that didn't make her look like a slut?

Jack's mother said something to him during a flashback along the lines of "You have to go after him, after what you did it's the least you can do" or something like that. What was she referring to? Did I miss what Jack did to his father?

They didn't say what he did...yet. This show is full of "little mysteries" liket hat.

This show is just freakin awesome....however I got a question. Why did Jack not encounter "The Monster" while he spent all freakin day in the woods?

I wish this show was 2 hours each week.

They should have gotten Daniel J. Travanti to play Jack's dad if they got Veronica Hamel to play his mom.

FINALLY! After four pages of blathering posts someone gets to the MEAT of the show!

PEOPLE THIS IS THE POINT OF THE EPISODE! What did Jack do? Clearly his father was an alcoholic who pretty much committed suicide. But why did he go to Sydney to do it? Jack also seems to be an alcoholic. What did Jack do to piss off his dad? Did he lose his medical license because of his drinking? Theories anyone? We've probably seen tons of clues about this already - including the swimming incident.

And ONCE AGAIN for the record - can we please get off all the sci-fi/fantasy garbage. Whoever starts next week's thread please post HUGE letters saying "NO SCI-FI/FANTASY DISCUSSIONS PLEASE!" Those posts are a waste of time for anyone who really wants to read legitimate theories about this great show.

Suck me, Tivo!!!
I saw the entire program on my TiVo. If course, I learned after the first episode to pad the recording by 5 min.

I really loved the part at the beginning where they were beating up the little kid.

My guess is that his father is an alcoholic, and regularly beat Jack (or his mother?) when he was drunk. Only the last time, Jack actually stood up to him and fought back. Father sobers up, feels like the ass he is, and skips town.

Of course, now he is a wish-granting undead zombie that rides a T-Rex on Polar Bear Island.

Decent episode. I suppose that thie episode marks the turning point where
Spoiler:
the group splits up into the people who live on the beach and the ones who live in the caves

I wonder why nobody worried about Locke not coming back yet? I suppose since he's the scary guy, they don't care about him.

I think the father running away probably happened after Jack killed the lady in surgery and maybe quit being a surgeon. The dad sees that Jack failed as he foresaw and reacted in way that he expected.

I'd have to agree, it was one of the weaker episodes so far. But, still entertaining.

That was the last straw: future episodes have now been padded 2 minutes on the tail end.
Hell I've done 5 minutes!

Interesting that everybody else is losing the end of their episodes. My affiliate keeps starting it early, so I keep missing the beginning.

ABC shows have me doing so much padding lately I feel like a Jack-bot.

Now I'm not the world's best swimmer, but if I saw someone calling for help in the ocean, I would try my best to get out there and save that person.

What was with most of the people standing on the beach while they let Jack do all the work? The least one of them could have done was to help Jack bring in the other rescuerer, which would then free Jack up to get the girl who was drowning.

It was impressive that Lost was able to hold up relatively well against game 7 of the ALCS.

Here are the ratings results from yesterday

"Game 7 of the American League Championship Series between Boston and the New York Yankees began the night with a 17.3/26 for FOX. ABC's "Lost" held up well against the game, posting a 10.2/16. The Wednesday "60 Minutes" was third for CBS with a 5.5/9. NBC was fourth with a rerun of last year's "West Wing" finale. "America's Next Top Model" averaged 3.5/6 for UPN, beating The WB's "Smallville" by a few tenths."
