I'm in TV Hell

I got rid of my cable box a month ago because is hate(HATE) my local cable company, Cox Cable (may they rot in hell). Unfortunately i don't have a 'clear view of the southern sky' from my apartment so Direct TV is not an option. So I figured I'd live off of the old school Analog antenna for a while.

This is hell.

$30 for a goofy amplified antenna that has a goofy blue light and looks like a giant insect perched on top of my set. The only channel that is almost watchable is PBS. Everything else looks like...i can't explain it. It hurts my eyes.

I've been surviving via the generosity of the 'bits' and pieces of 'torrential' flow of data from the internet but I fear that it wont be enough to last for much longer.

Sometimes you have put up with crap rather than abandon something alltogether. Since cable companies are probably the most hated service companies in the world, you're not alone, and you'll probably find you are unhappier without them than with them.

I've always wanted to tell the cable company to shove it. I'm glad you did. I'm going to live vicarously through you, but still watch TV here.

Maybe you could get friendly with someone who does have a clear view of the southern sky?

Comcast is by far the worst cable company, but when my cable was out I was begging them to fix it (which took a week). These bums finally got F/X and Disney as a basic service and it's still not listed on the TV Guide Channel.

But I cannot live without them......

Just get Broadband, then download any shows you want and watch them on your PC. ;)

thank God I'm not Red Dog and Derrich
;)

I don't anyone who likes Comcast or Cox

Hey all props to you for telling the cable company to shove it, but I know that I could not do it. I need my regular TV fixes and I tried going the antenna route before and could only ever get decent reception on one or two channels at best.

I loved cox when we lived in Va Beach. What was it that made you shove it. I don't particularly like Adelphia now but any cable is better than none.

Groucho 09-14-04 03:43 PM

You, sir, are a Cox-Blocker.

clckworang 09-14-04 04:15 PM

Well said, Groucho.

"any cable is better than none."

How so? I was getting cable for FREE for a while and still couldn't find anything watchable on it. Maybe if the real MTV was still around.
Pay me half of what you currently pay for cable, and I'll come over to your house and insult you.

I hate cable also. So much so that I gave it up for around a year and bought a similar "powered" antenna. Unfortunately, I live in the hills of Glendale where these things just don't work. EVERYTHING was fuzzy. I guess I got used to it, but I recently found an old tape of the first season of American Idol, and it was nearly unwatchable.

So I got cable again after I got married, despite the outrageous prices (after your promotional period ends, that is). Getting a TIVO made me hate that stupid digital cable box even more, since getting that version to work with IR blaster was hit and miss.

Then I installed a DirecTV dish with DirecTIVO, and it was like heaven. Of course, it couldn't last, as my landlord forced me to take it off the roof after I installed it without permission.

So back to cable. What infuriates me is the lack of a cheap, basic package. Although I like having a lot of channels, it's prohibitively expensive to get up to the tiers that have everything I want, and I'm not really interested in the majority of lower tier channels. So I'd be satisfied with just having the basic networks for around 10-15 bucks a month. Instead, the lowest tier is 35 bucks a month. But I just can't go back to the analog signal in my area...

You might want to try another antenna. I found that the cheap, no-frill ones from radio shack work better than the fancy ones with all the bells and whistles.

I haven't had cable since hurricane Francis came by
