At least you are getting it! I looked up my local PBS station and they don't list Charlie Rose again until Sept 20th. The bastiches.

There's a lot to be said about Lucas, and how badly he messed with the Star Wars movies, but this interview made him out to be a really likeable guy.

Rose was giving him a lot of credit and Lucas denied most of it, it's nice to see that Lucas is aware of his place or atleast good at hiding his ego. I mean you would think from the way people talk about him on the internet, that he is some sort of vile human being. This interview showed me that he isn't at all, and he's just making the films he wants to makes. That I can fully understand and admire.

With that said, I still wish the original unaltered Star Wars movies were available through Lucasfilm, on DVD.

Lucas has always come off as humble and modest - despite what you read in this forum.

It's funny actually, but I knew that. I have just spent so much time here, and on the internet in general, that I forgot.

Great interview. Lucas seems to be a very well spoken, educated individual. Stubborn? Absolutely.

I've never questioned Lucas as a human being. I'm sure he's a nice guy. I just think he's made some horrible decisions regarding his work over the years. For what it's worth, I enjoyed the interview.

I thought that this was a pretty interview too. I could do without some of Charlie Rose's tendency to interrupt the guest. I look forward to see if Lucas will direct really expensive art/experimental films in the future.

As he should be I think he came up it. In my mind he gave us some of the greatest movies of my lifetime.

I only caught the end part of it, but what was with Rose talking about what if the two presidential candidates could just sit together and take time off from the campaign to watch the Star Wars Trilogy together? Lucas even seemed thrown off by the idea. I was trying to figure out where Rose was going with that.

Re: 'Artsy' less commercial films.

Lucas has been saying this for years and I think (and hope!) he actually pulls through with it. I think his answer about the slavery documentary was very telling.

He mentioned that he wanted to do a documentary about slavery and Rose said "For theatrical release? For TV?" and Lucas said "For myself".

I think after he puts Episode III to bed, he can finally start focusing on projects for himself. Some will be hits, some won't. But with $5 billion in the bank, he really doesn't have to give a shit anymore.

Although I would be personally happy to see him focus on Star Wars until the day he dies, I also look forward to him being a bit more 'experimental' in his final decades. I suspect they'll be some bumps in the road, but there will also (I think) be a very impressive project or two.

I watched some of Lucas' student films from the USC Archives. Many were suprisingly abstract social commentaries. Here's a website with some clips- From "Look at Life," I can see Lucas' interest in the documentary.

http://cinema-tv.usc.edu/Archives/lucas/lucas.html

Also, check out "1:42:08 to Qualify." It looks like an early prototype for that pod race from Episode 1.

makes you kinda wonder with all the companies that he has started and or has a hand in if his net worth is in the same ballpark as Bill Gates.

Who is in more need of getting a life - the people minding their own business and having a good time, or the people who come in just to rain on their parade?

And, the typical troll post in a Lucas thread, surprise, surprise! Get a life.

Saw the show thought he came across pretty good. He's a pretty reserved guy, and that's what he showed. Didn't really say anything noteworthy, though.
