The Sweeney. English cop show from the 70's. Big, brash and very cool. The SWAT theme hears it and cowers. A nice touch was the "softer" version of the theme that played over the end credits.

Black Books. Sounds like the labored doodles of a drunken guitar player. Perfectly fits.

Insomniac. Fun, boisterous, crass and silly. Just like Dave Attell's nightly activities.

The High Life. Actually, it doesn't fit at all, but that's what makes it fun; while the show is about the mundane (and not-so-mundane) life of flight attendants, the opening theme - and credits - is an all-singing, all-dancing spectacular.

The Day Today and Brass Eye. Perfect imitations of the "very important news" themes they parody, yet still silly-sounding, playing on the themes' cliches. This device was later used by The Daily Show.

The Whole Shebang. A kid's 'compendium' show in Ireland; sort of thing where it's three hours long and puppets introduce cartoons, etc. The theme was the Pogues' "Fiesta", an excellent - if silly - song. I mean, it's an Irish band playing mariachi music.

And, of course...

The Royle Family. Oasis' "Half The World Away" perfectly encapsulates how many of the characters feel...

I would say so. It's nice, but a little melancholy.

Highlander the series is easily one the best.

From the band Queen "Princes of the Universe"

And here we are, we're the princes of the universe
Here we belong, fighting for survival
We've come to be the rulers of your world
I am immortal, I have inside me blood of kings
I have no rival, no man can be my equal
Take me to the future of your world

The Fall & Rise Of Reginald Perrin. Melancholy with a hint of whimsy. Suited the show so very well.

Star Trek: Enterprise. I know a lot of people hate it, but it fits well. Especially early on when it was more about exploring and not being held back by the Vulcans. The whole montage is great. Unfortunatly, so far, this is the best thing I have seen on this series.

It's really kind of melancholy and depressing, but very British. I think it fits quite perfectly.

American Dreams. One of the best openers ever, really gets you into that time frame.

And the Star Treks. I always liked their theme songs. Especially DS9 and Voyager.

I second Firefly. The song not only fits the show perfectly, but is enjoyable to listen to as well. I almost always fast-forward past the theme song/title sequence on TV shows, but firefly I watch every time.
