THE APPRENTICE - Season Premiere - 9/9

OK, let's start the party!

Who's your prediction for the first one to get the boot?

My guess is Raj, the bow-tie wearing, pompous-ass mofo of the new crew.

He seems like the most inept, aka the New Sam of the second season.

Kal-El 09-09-04 12:51 PM

I missed the premiere of the last season and I haven't seen any of the new people for this one. Gonna be fun having the Donald back.

tofu 09-09-04 12:51 PM

I just wonder if they gonna have the sexes battle first like last time and if the guys are going to be as inept when working together.

BDB 09-09-04 01:21 PM

I've dropped this show for this season, it was fun once, but i'm out

corycouger 09-09-04 03:09 PM

I saw the commercial and most of the contestants I saw I don't like.

Fok 09-09-04 03:20 PM

Looks like its going to be a busy winter for me in front of the TV

shanester 09-09-04 06:12 PM

Let's hope they keep the same classic opening theme song:

"For The Love Of Money" by the O'Jays (1973)

Some people gotta have it..yeah yeah
Some people really need it..listen to me ya'll
do things do things..do bad bad things with it

PS any hot hicks in this new group like Katrina??

twikoff 09-09-04 07:51 PM

ok.. Im watching
and I already know who wins

Spoiler:
made you look!

Patman 09-09-04 08:47 PM

So far, pretty entertaining, though Bradford is a boob.

I do like Jennifer C from the onset.

Sunday Morning 09-09-04 08:56 PM

I guess rob. but only because the show just ended.

Gallant Pig 09-09-04 09:52 PM

The Dumb and Dumber joke had me cracking up.

FantasticVSDoom 09-09-04 09:59 PM

This show was really predictable tonight...I dont really like the people, but its set in New York so Ill probably keep watching it.

MrX 09-09-04 10:17 PM

meh

If I was Trump I would have fired whoever came up with "Mosaic" as the team name

twikoff 09-09-04 11:13 PM

wont measure up to the original
but this group seems like they are going to be pretty damn cut throat

Fok 09-09-04 11:23 PM

My question is, how come most of the contestants are white. Its seems like there's always a token asian and black person.

Copenhagen 09-09-04 11:25 PM

Crap I forgot to set my VCR before leaving for work. Is this going to be rebroadcasted or should I seek out alternative avenues?

MrX 09-09-04 11:25 PM

They're replaying it Saturday night

Meh. Everyone seems to be showboating too much. Trying to outdo the first season's cast too much in "attitude". But I'll still watch. :D

Groucho 09-10-04 12:01 AM

This year's Sam isn't Raj. It's Staci.

Patman 09-10-04 12:35 AM

According to the promos, Saturday night's replay will have 20 minutes of additional board room footage.

corycouger 09-10-04 01:55 AM

Pamela that tall blonde is a b*tch making fun of the little kids and the other goober laughing with her.

I hope she gets canned.

I think I hate most of the people in Mosiac.

movieking 09-10-04 06:17 AM

For all Pamela knew, she could have been mocking the kids and/or grandkids of the people from Mattel who were in the room with her. It has got to be one of the stupidest things that I have seen someone do on the Apprentice (and I watched all the episodes from last year with Sam!).

Personally, I thought that she should have been fired just for mocking their ultimate customer, the kids.

saoirse 09-10-04 09:48 AM

Looks like a lot of anal people. It should be a good season. Has the fame from the first Apprentice got to Donalds head? He seems much more full of himself this year. Don't get me wrong, I do like the guy.

Raj is to Sam as Staci is to Omarosa

IMHO

Not the same this year, as they all have seen the first season and have an idea what works. You can see the posturing and positioning. The producers will have to really shake things up to get that "fresh" feel this year.

I'll be watching tho...

Phil L. 09-10-04 10:00 AM

I did not watch the first season of this and don't plan to watch any of this current season. But after seeing the promos a million times I did tune in last night for about the first 15 mins. with the sound turned off just to check out the woman with the short dark hair. I think her name turned out to be Maria. I thought she looked kinda hot.

tofu 09-10-04 11:34 AM

It was kinda funny watching the lady mimic everything Trump did at dinner, especially eating the shrimp. She wasn't even trying to make to hide the fact that she was copying his every move. Geez.

I think the Apex corp will win a lot of the early competitions. I can't believe that those guys thought Crustacean Nation was a good idea.

movieking 09-10-04 11:46 AM

Did the competition directly mention that the toys had to be for boys? If so, I must have missed it.

tofu 09-10-04 12:16 PM

Apparently they must have, although I missed it too. I didn't realize it until they brought in the focus group.

I didnt catch that either, I dont think they originally did.

Groucho 09-10-04 12:25 PM

It was never explicitly stated for the audience's benefit, but if you listened "between the lines" you could determine that they were making a toy for boys 6-8. I'm sure the teams knew that from the get-go, of course.

One thing I liked about this challenge is that the women weren't able to exploit their sex appeal (which got the women through several challenges at the beginning of Season 1).

movieking 09-10-04 01:45 PM

Based on the previews from next week...

Spoiler:
we mightn't have to wait too long before the women start using their sex appeal again.

slax 09-10-04 02:09 PM

God I so wish Andy woulda went instead of Rob.

Rob may have done nothing but at least he did not come up with the single worst name for a toy i've ever heard.

Andy can speak very well but otherwise he's useless.Kinda makes me not want to watch anymore with Trump throwing in that favoritism comment about seeing him as a pet project.

So far I like the Asian girl and the guy who stuck up for Pamela in the boardroom. The one watching Trump eat made me sick and the short haired one seems really pushy.

DRG 09-10-04 02:52 PM

Interesting story tied into last night's episode...

'Apprentice' Toy Will Hit Stores
(Friday, September 10 12:16 PM)
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com)

The would-be moguls on "The Apprentice" have only a 1-in-17 chance of winning a job with Donald Trump. But nine players can at least take solace in the fact that even if they don't win, children everywhere can enjoy one of their efforts.

During Thursday's (Sept. 9) season premiere of "The Apprentice" on NBC, the two teams had to design a toy for Mattel, then watch as a focus group of boys played with it and offered their opinions. The women (and one man) of the Apex team won with their design of a radio-control car with customizable parts.

"The toy tested so well that Mattel, Inc. will manufacture it for one of its marquee brands, Tyco R/C," Mattel says in a statement. The breathless press release also says the cars, which will be called Morph Machines, have "everything boys love!" -- which includes the ability for kids to "drive it, race it, crash it, then ... simply put it back together again."

Retailer Toys R Us, which like Mattel got some hefty product-placement in the "Apprentice" episode, is already taking advance orders for the cars via its web site (they're selling for $27.99). They won't begin shipping until February, however, meaning Morph Machines will miss the prime holiday sales period.

Morph Machines are at least the second product to enter the marketplace after being developed on "The Apprentice." Last season, Marquis Jet, which sells time shares on private jets, used a TV spot created on the show to help sell its service (it rejected a print-ad campaign as too racy, however).

I said the same thing to my wife last night...Also, the ugliest girl went to the men's side as well, which will allow the women to again use this tactic later on in the show.

When Bradford was piching his remote controlled football player head and the focus panel was all boys it was pretty evident that they were told it was going to be for boys.

I didn't watch last season because I was bitter about it taking Ed's timeslot. I'm going to give it a shot, but after this first show, I'd say it was highly overrated.

Raj is pretty entertaining. He dresses like a doorman, but is pretty aggressive. I hope he gets some one on one time with Trump so they can discuss the cane and bowtie  I'll probably quit watching once he gets fired.

I don't think Cruella Deville is going to last much longer. Even Trump told her in not so many words that she's a bitch. Then there is that kiss-ass who keeps saying how he wants to spend as much time as possible with Mr. Trump and give him a handy

Jadzia 09-10-04 09:03 PM

The whole time during the Mattel scenes I kept thinking about the movie Big:

"It's a building that turns into a robot...what's fun about that?!?"

I wonder what that kid and his parents feel after watching this episode.

That one girl (didn't catch her name) looks like she is 12. That Pamela chick, however, looks like she's 45.

Patman 09-10-04 09:22 PM

You're starting to sound like Pamela. :D

shanester 09-12-04 05:08 PM

I thaught Staci's meltdown was kind of funny

It's always the black chick that's got to be the outcast. Funny how that always happens

Pamela came across as kind of pushy but I liked her cause she's got balls and good business sense
