FSN's "Poker Superstars Invitational"
Fox Sports Net will air the "Poker Superstars Invitational" on August 15th. Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, T.J. Cloutier, Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Johnny Chan, Gus Hansen and Chip Reese accepted the invitation to buy in to the $400,000 tournament to see who is the best of the best.
The format of this tournament is set up to reduce the luck factor as much as possible. Here is the format: FoxSportsNet would broadcast two tournaments. These tournaments would be broken into 12 episodes, starting on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2004, at 9 p.m. and running on each consecutive Sunday after that. Each tournament would consist of two matches and one finale. The purpose of each match would be to accumulate chips for the finale. The purpose of each finale on FSN would be to accumulate chips for the championship on NBC. For each match on FSN, players would begin with $100,000 of their $400,000 buy-in. NBC would then televise the championship on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 6., two hours prior to the Super Bowl. This format would give the players several chances to accumulate chips for the final championship. The players who perform the best in the matches will have more chips to start the finale, and the players who perform the best in the finale will have more chips to start the championship. So, a lucky break would help only so much if you couldn't keep up the good work in the rest of the games. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top. I will be rooting for Howard Lederer! |
i am going to watch these only to see Barry Greenstein, best Poker Player ever.
|
I like Gus or Howard to win this. Why no whiny Hellmuth?

Sounds cool. I like both Ivey and Lederer so i would hope one of them would win.
I just cant get enough of this poker on tv stuff. |

Just watched the first show.
Spoiler:
It also would have been nice to hear the table talk. Especially at THAT table. |

I didn't like how a few times the bet was displayed on the screen before it even happened (ex. when Doyle went all in and got busted out), and the stupid flashing, noise makeing "Bluff" symbol.
Other than that it was poker and entertaining. |
Wow, there were a lot of all-ins thrown back and forth last night. I know they only show the most exciting hands, but damn. It seemed like the players got tired and just wanted to end it.
For anyone who didn't see it, the winner was Spoiler:

So how does this work with the round-by-round action? I watched last week's episode and they said that the losers would be back. Either they didn't explain the format or just wasn't paying attention when they did.
|
There will be 6 rounds. Not sure about distribution of chips, probably based on ranking from previous round. btw, P Ivey is totally reckless

Well, how about "Best Living Poker Player"? :)
|
Now if only FSN would decide to update their freakin' guide data, so my TiVo would know when it is a NEW episode. God, I hate that.

For how many great players this show has, it's actually pretty bad. We get to see one or two hands and then commercial break. And even the hands we do get to see, we don't get to see the hole cards that the pros fold. I'd like it if they showed more hands, showed all the players cards (fold or playing), and if they shared more of the table talk.

Anyone wanna give an update on whats been going on?
I can't find any website with information about the episodes that have already aired. |
