i stopped after soup boy left the show.
just wasnt the same afterwards.

Finisher 01-17-08 01:08 AM

Yeah, I used to watch regularly but I just can't get into Joel McHale. I keep hearing how hilarious he is, but he does nothing for me.

redskull 01-17-08 11:34 AM

The Soup clips are the only way I will ever be able to watch even a couple seconds of any reality shows.

they used to always play this at the right time...

islandclaws 01-17-08 12:35 PM

YES, YES, yes, god yes!!! Joel McHale cracks me up like nobody's business. I love The Soup. It's so irreverant and ridiculous. The "guests" on the final countdown shows of 2007 killed me. Not-gay Chad. Dancing Asian kid. Mankini. I frikkin' love this show. It's one of the few things I actually look forward to on TV each and every week. I almost caught his standup act a couple weeks ago, but I didn't have time to go.

whitetigeress 01-17-08 10:33 PM

Joel McHale

cdollaz 02-20-08 05:59 PM

There were 2 great lines this past week:

"The Tampon Swamp"

and the one about the school adminstrator getting teabagged by a bull.

Neeb 02-21-08 01:55 AM

I'd love to see Joell McHale host the Oscars if I didn't think it would go over the heads of his audience.

big whoppa 02-21-08 04:44 AM

Only when Greg Kinnear, guy from Queer as Folk, and Skunk boy hosted the show.

DJLinus 06-04-08 11:50 AM

Here's an interesting interview with Joel McHale: http://www.avclub.com/content/interview/joel_mchale

Tyra hates the show.

Gizmo 06-05-08 10:20 AM

What show is the dancing Asian kid from?

My wife and I love The Soup...where else can you see the best of the worst CGI shots from SciFi movies, and clips from such brutally bad reality shows as Bad Girls and Rock of Love? I also LOL at the constant string of shoutbacks to past clips (pickle licking girl, Sanjaya, Liz Taylor, and the new "Some People Didn't Like It" from AI's Danny Whatsisname...)

POP OFF!

kstublen 06-05-08 06:10 PM

I lost interest when Greg Kinnear left the show. He made it what it was. It doesn't interest me anymore.

riley_dude 06-05-08 08:24 PM

Love the show.

girlnextdoor 06-08-08 10:24 PM

We TIVO it every week - I have one to watch now. We just started watching, I don't know any other host than Joel.

cdollaz 06-08-08 10:26 PM

Pass me that plate of goat taints.

Rex Fenestrarum 06-09-08 02:39 AM

Greg Kinnear rocked... Skunkboy was pretty good... Couldn't get in to Aiesha Tyler(sp?)

McHale's pretty good, though.

GuessWho 06-09-08 09:26 AM

Sooo meaty

BDLOU 06-09-08 03:49 PM

I've only started watching this recently after not watching since SkunkBoy. Can someone explain some older jokes for me? What's with the "Chicks, Man" and the Ryan Seacrest stuff?

Huge fan of Talk Soup for years when Kinnear and Henson were doing it. I just got into The Soup about a year ago. It's good for a few laughs, mostly from the actual clips.

OldBoy 11-28-12 11:17 AM

Re: Anyone else watch The Soup religiously?

i watch religiously. but the laughs seem to be less and less now.

GuessWho 11-28-12 12:13 PM

Re: Anyone else watch The Soup religiously?

Love the clips and snarky comments about the clips... despite the skits and characters (mankini, etc)

msdmoney 11-28-12 02:44 PM

Re: Anyone else watch The Soup religiously?

I watch the Soup weekly, it's how I found out what is happening in all the reality tv that i don't watch. Every once in a while they have a great clip, or they make some great jokes, like the ones recently about the human thumb. They could do without the skits though, just do the clips and comments.

I am a bit appalled at the number of posts in this thread that refer to the show Talk Soup which is in no way related to this show except for what network the show is on.

The Soup was a Best Week Ever clone attempt that launched with the title I do believe "The 'What The...?' Awards" that quickly got renamed to capitalize on the name recognition of the other show. It's branding at best.

I am a bit appalled that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.
  1. Chat Stew was originally a segment on... you guessed it... Talk Soup.
  2. Tom McNamara and various other crew members worked on both Talk Soup and The Soup.
  3. Both John Henson and Aisha Tyler have appeared on the show admitting it's the same show.

I watch The Soup literally every week. I never miss it. Sadly, because of it I know of monsters like Honey Boo boo and the Kardashians. The show is a consistent source of laughs, though.

1) Chat Stew wasn't on the show as launched.
2) Kurt Sutter worked on The Shield and Sons of Anarchy, on the same network. Same show?
3) Henson and Tyler are apparently idiots who don't know the history, then.

Man, this has the makings of a serious Internet dust up over something completely pointless. I haven't had this much fun in ages. :)

The show was called Talk Soup cause it use to only show clips of talk shows, they changed it to The Soup when they started doing reality show clips as well. What the hell are you talking about.

Talk Soup ended a good year before the show McHale hosts launched as "The 'What The...? Awards". A few weeks after it launched, it changed names and very slightly changed formats (McHale wore a tux the first bit). It's not the same show. That's history.

  1. When E! launched The "What the?" Awards, it was a direct rip-off of VH1's Best Week Ever with the award and panel segments. However, as internet history would show, there were already comparisons abound to Talk Soup due to:
    • Most of Talk Soup's behind-the-scenes crew still in tact.
    • The show's "snarky" nature.
How funny that years later, VH1 would rip off The Soup when they retooled Best Week Ever.
  2. When E! retooled the show into The Soup is when it became a spiritual successor to Talk Soup. Segments like Chat Stew reappeared and McHale grew more into his role as the host.
  3. Once The Soup was in its prime, McHale hosted a retrospective documentary on Talk Soup rather than doing the show for a week. I can't find any clips of it online, but at that point, everyone acknowledged that this was the second coming of Talk Soup.
  4. Like the clip I posted above, even pasts hosts have acknowledged this is the same show that was aired once before.
I'm sure you'll say next that Talk Soup was at it's prime with Kinnear as host, right? Get the fuck outta here. Everyone and their mother gets that The Soup has way more in common with Talk Soup than just the network it airs on.

... and you know what? It's the better show too.

I liked it when the original soup boy was the host.

I will fight you all for you wrongness! Any fool can see both we're inspired by the 1930 film Soup to Nuts and its gastro porn parody if the same name.
