I've laughed harder at each of the two shows this week than the last several weeks combined. The "convention floor" reporter stuff is a bit of a drop-off, but the opening segments more than make up for it. I certainly hope the show on Monday covers Kerry's speech tonight.

yeah, that name stood out. I even text messaged the name to some one, I thought it was so funny.

The line that went something like "using my family to enhance my own credibility" was spot-on.

The Daily Show knows exactly how to get at the inherent absurdity of politics.

That was great! These past 3 shows have been very good. I'm looking forward to tonight's show too.

they should have had more coverage of the convention with interviews on the floor and stuff. its always funny when they ask important people inappropriate questions.

Hey, did anyone see Monday's (8/2) episode? Man, Henry Bonilla got pwned by Stewart. Good stuff!

I don't like the fact that more and more jokes seem to be resulting from "gotcha". Seems like a long way to get a cheap joke and they can be smarter than that. :(

I don't think it was a joke; I think Stewart was calling Bonilla on the GOP's continued use of a bullshit statistic. I wish "real" reporters would do that instead of perpetuating that statistic.

Yeah, that was cool. I don't want to see Stewart ambushing people every night, but the guy was pimping misleading statistics, and someone needed to call him on it. He now needs to turn around and do that to a Democrat to keep it fair, but I'm fine with it.

I wasn't referring to that interview. I was talking in general, mainly in the opening segments.

As for "bullshit statistics", the Democrats are hardly any better in that regard.

OK, who's buying that? I've don't think I've ever seen Stewart attack a democrat during an interview (at least nowhere close to this level) and I doubt I ever will. It's true the show in general doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the democrats, but I think they tend to go after the right with more ferocity and often based on issue attacks (usually with democrats it's superficial).

Yeah, I raised an eyebrow when he said that.

While I'd agree the show is more harsh towards the Republican side, it's still more balanced than most everything else. Also, the Republicans are currently in power, and as such, you have to expect them to be the target of more criticism.

While the show does seem to be liberal-leaning, the fact of the matter is: the Republicans are in power in both houses of Congress and the White House. Other than Kerry, there isn't much to beat up on for the Democrats.

I think Republicans are just much better organized and they are much better at all spouting the same "talking points" and spin for their side. Usually the Repubs all seem "on message" while the Dems aren't as unified in how they speak.

I think the whole "talking points" thing is what really drives Jon Stewart crazy. The Daily Show has done some great montages where they have edited together all the clips from newscasts of various Bush administration folks and they all use the same phrases in one interview after another.

I think what Stewart was trying to do with Bonilla is challenge him on one of their main main talking points to see if he actually knew anything deeper than just the mantra he was repeating over & over again.

Stewart has said time and time again he is disgusted by rank partisanship and he is not a Democrat (although I agrere he swings more liberal).

I just think the GOP talking heads give him a lot more ammunition to make fun of since they are all so identical in their speaking.

Oh, I've seen/heard plenty of Democratic "talking points" montages as you describe. Just rarely, if ever on this show. If "talking points" drive him crazy, equal time is called for.

He made fun of Edwards's "Hope is on the way" talking point just last week at the DNC.

My favorite parts of this show are when they show Bush making a jackass of himself, and then they show the Kerry response ... and it's worse.

One thing I'm sure the producers somewhat consider is that when Stewart says something bad about the Democrats, the crowd doesn't always like it. When he makes the Republicans look bad, the crowd always goes wild; but there've been many times where the crowd gives him silence and even light boos/groans when he (or a guest) turns the tables on the Democrats.
