I have Directv as well and the rain only kills the signal when it is pouring hard. I would say over the years cable went out more than Directv. Oh and get the tivo it rocks.

If you like football,i would say Sunday Ticket alone is reason enough to go with Directv.
And like the others have said,Direct with Tivo is the bomb.
