The Sopranos - what if they released a theatrical movie?

This HBO TV series has won numerous Emmys and Golden Globe awards, and has several nominations (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141842/awards) madre santa del jesus del dio!

What chance would The Sopranos - The Movie have for getting nominated for Academy Awards?

If this occurred (and that's a big if), it would be in 2008 or beyond. Would the current cast be up for it? Would they be past their peak, as opposed to if they filmed a movie back in 2000 and held off on announcement and release?

If the money is there, the cast will be up to it.

A movie spinoff is pretty likely, as it's a guaranteed money maker. They may want to end the series gracefully and kill it. I guess it's up to David Chase and HBO.

Considering Tony will be dead, this would be pretty hard to pull off

I so hope they just end the series and be done with it. I would hate to see a cliffhanger for the final episode, then wait another 2-3 years for resolution.

Talk about a movie following the next & final season had been on the table for a long while. I'm sure the cast would be up for it since their time on set is pretty much equivalent to making a movie if not longer and more stressful. However David Chase said that since season 6 would allow him to tie off what he wanted to deal with that there would not be a movie (careful there might be spoilers in there - probably from season 5):

I always kind of hoped they did the Star Trek thing... A movie every couple years after the series ended.

I think it would actually be pretty nice to have a theatrical movie. Maybe something a little further down the timeline. I don't have a clue how the show is going to end, but I'm sure there will be some points that could be expanded on. All I know is if they do make a movie I will go see it, and buy it on DVD.

I am kind of expecting a movie in a few years (3-5) after the Season 6 has ended. For how propular the series is this should be a no-brainer but you know how Hollywood can make something great into something so Hulk-ish..

A movie would be cool. You could finally see some nudity and hear some cussing on that show.

I would probably be one of those people who camp out at the box office.
