James "Scotty" Doohan has Alzheimers.
Saw this on Fox News Channel today.
Short little news update stating that in addition to his recent health problems, that the star of Star Trek now has Alzheimers.
If I can find a news link, I will add it asap.

What a shame... Since according to the article he's 84 and already had diabetes and Parkinsons, with any luck he won't live long enough for Alzhemiers to reach it's final stages.
I think I'd rather go by Ebola virus than Alzheimers... What a horrible way to go.

Seeker! Where have you been?
I agree, Alzheimer's is the worst. My wife and I have both made it clear to each other that we don't want to live with that condition, although if she got it I don't think I could do anything to harm her, and vice-versa.

Oh, so that's why he was trying to beam up Kirk by fiddling with the knobs on the stove.

Always one of my faves, I like to tell myself my parents picked my middle name from him (though I have no idea).
Hope he doesn't suffer long.

My grandfather is currently suffering from the same ailment, so I know how his family must feel.
I met James Doohan about 8 years back at a Star Trek convention (I know, I know), and he was a really funny guy who really seemed into meeting his fans, even though it was a fairly small group of only maybe 200 people. Since then, I've always felt that Doohan actually appreciates Star Trek and its fans and what it was done for him, instead of alot of the other actors who hate being "typecasted." I just recently found his autograph which I proudly hang in my home theater.

According to IMDB, James and his (then) 48-year-old wife had a child in 2000. That kid will have a rough time without a dad...
Other trivia:
Lost his finger on D-Day as a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery.
The only two episodes of "Star Trek" in which one can see that Doohan's middle finger is missing are "The Trouble with Tribbles" and "Cats Paw". Doohan went to great length to hide his "disability".

For many of us, the original Star Trek crew have been around for most of our adult lives, so this is a little like hearing bad news about a family member - very sad.
