Was "The Gong Show" in reruns at that time?

Does it have to be a TV show? He could be watching a movie on his new VCR. Have a voiceover or some character saying the first thing he rented was Teen Wolf.

I like the idea of a repeat/syndication program, especially in daytime.

Go with CHiPs! Everytime my older brother caught me watching that in the afternoon, he would laugh calling them "Disco Cops!"

Wheel of Fortune is the epitome of 80's daytime TV. The ultimate "me" / "glamour" show.

Martin Short's Ed Grimley kept wanting to meet Pat Sajak during the 1985 - 1986 SNL season.

If Wheel of Fortune is your bag, you should go for the Wheel episode of 227, which as luck would have it, aired in 1986.

Of course, there is the classic Wheel of Fortune episode of The A-Team, also airing in 1986; however, it would not project the image of the character you want. I see someone watching The A-Team, and I think, "now that man is a true intellectual."
