Any fans of Amazing Stories?
Anyone remember the classic anthology series from the mid 80's?
Why can't the Sci Fi Channel show it more often? Zemekis and Spielberg created it. |
That was a great show from what I remember. The only specific episode I remember was a plane that had lost its landing gear. Something about the guy drawing the landing gear on a sketch pad made it appear on the real plane. I think that was Amazing Stories. Anyone else remember this?

I remember watching it as a kid. I've caught a couple episodes on Sci-Fi.
Be nice to have a DVD collection of it. |

The pilot in the plane was Keifer Sutherland if I recall. |

I liked the one with Mark Hamil as a toy collector who gets rich at the end. I made my parents watch it to show them that all the junk I was collecting would make me rich someday!
There was also one about a house built on a train track or something... EDIT: Here is a list of episodes and info about the series |
I remember the one with Jon Cryer who had this special formula to make his magazine pin-ups come to life.
|
Didnt the show Family Dog start as an episode in that series ?
|
A great one, (which never made the Laserdiscs) was "The Doll" Directed by Phil Joanou, written by Richard Matheson (Classic TZ writer) staring John Lithgow.
"A lonely bachelor finds that the handmade doll he bought for his niece holds a mysterious fascination." |

ooops. Thanks! He was in it tho.

IS there a video of the intro online anywhere? I love the theme song

I think Family Dog first appeared in Amazing Stories.
I also remember there was a 80's version of Alfred Hitchcock Presents that followed it. |
The episode called "Mummy Daddy" was classic. An actor playing a mummy in a 50's horror movie has to run to the hospital to be with his wife who's in labor. Along the way, he gets chased by a gang of rednecks who think he's a real mummy.

The ones I remember best were the ones where Christopher Lloyd was a high school professor who gets his head chopped off by Mary Stuart Masterson and the one where this old guy gets this special remote that makes his TV come to life. I just remember him waking up to June Cleaver in that episode. |
I love this show. And when it comes out on DVD I will be very very extremely happy.
|
This used to air right along with Alfred Hitchcock Presents...
That was a great hour! Two of my favorite shows from that era. |
I also loved this show... remember the one about the kid who was popular and started to attract all sorts of metal and ended up kissing this nerdy chick with braces? (I think that's how it went).
|
I also loved this show, especially the intro & intro music.
A favorite episode that nobody's mentioned was the huge pumpkin growing contest. There were some bad episodes near the end. One that sticks out is an interplanetary beauty pageant. That was some bad tv. |

This was supposed to be released on Nov 2, 2004 and was now pushed back to 2005 :(
|
I really want this on DVD.
The episode I remember most, was about this dry well that yielded treasure for these people, and at the bottom were these hole people. David Carradine played the mean stepfather. That episode, scared me when I was little, even though it wasn't really. Just the thought of those hole people. |
Oh man, that hole people one scared me when I was little too! And what a coincidence with the holiday being so close--it was a Thanksgiving themed episode. I will always remember his body coming up from the well and his silhouette was in the shape of a big turkey. Gave me the chills!
