Jadzia 05-24-04 06:52 PM

DirecTv with Tivo.

There is no substitute.

B.A. 05-24-04 06:54 PM

If anyone has the opportunity to get DirecTivo - they should.

joltaddict 05-24-04 06:56 PM

Not even close. Thats like asking Jessica Alba or Rosie O Donnell.

Pharoh 05-24-04 07:14 PM

Unless of course local HD channels are important to you.

Sloth911 05-24-04 07:19 PM

Dish Network has cheaper programing options than Direct TV.

Nefarious 05-24-04 07:44 PM

DirecTV w/ Tivo.

Sonicflood 05-24-04 07:53 PM

DirecTV & Panasonic E80/85- 80 gig DVR! No TIVO Fees!

I have had Direct TV for 7+ years and currently have three receivers, 1 of which is HD.

I am so glad I got rid of cable for far too many reasons to list here. The best of which was after a bad storm, people were outside complaining that they had lost their cable hours ago. I never even had rain fade and I was fine.

lisadoris 05-24-04 09:02 PM

Go with DirecTV. I h ad it and had to give it up when I moved here. I miss my dish so badly.

Me007gold 05-24-04 09:05 PM

the only advantage cable has is on demand. other then that DTV all the way

das Monkey 05-24-04 09:09 PM

The Book of G'Quan clearly states that the correct path is DirecTV with TiVo. Cable is for the Centauri. That's not true. Even the Centauri are too good for cable. Cable is for the Drazi.

DirectTivo is indeed the winner.

There is no other.

MJKTool 05-24-04 10:12 PM

BTW, DirecTV with TiVo is the vote here too. :)

DirectTV all the way.

You can still watch local HD channels OTA, folks.

I made the switch and haven't looked back. I recently rented a condo on vacation that had cable service from Comcast, my old provider. I had to laugh at how bad the quality was...can't believe I lived with that for so long.

no dual tuners, season pass management, etc.. though as well.

The best $4.95 a month I spend are the DTivos fees.

Folks have no idea what they are missing until they sit down and witness the greatness that is the DirecTivo.

das Monkey 05-25-04 09:10 AM

Yeah. Don't tell them, but I'd gladly pay thrice the TiVo fees for the features it provides. It's a shame people get so hung up over this, because it's a valuable service.

DirectTiVo will mow your lawn!

It'll give you a massage, complete with happy ending!

If somebody from your Bridge foursome doesn't show, DirectTiVo will be happy to step in!

datagirl7 05-25-04 09:37 AM

I have an upgraded 300 hour Tivo. Would I be able to use that with DirectTV, or would I have to buy and upgrade another one?

Spanky BananaPants 05-25-04 09:38 AM

Another vote for the DirecTiVo. I bought my first one the day it hit shelves for $399. Added lifetime service for another $200, back when DirecTV offered it. Worth every penny, and then some. Before long, I'll be picking up the HDTiVo too.

Don't even think about it. Get DirecTV.

~~edit~~ datagirl7, if you've got an upgraded 300 hour TiVo, I assume it's not the DirecTiVo. It will work, but you're better off getting the combo unit. The PQ is much, much better, and the dual tuners are amazing.

Sell the 300hr. one on ebay, should pay for the combo box, plus some.

I guess I'm the only one who likes cable better. I just switched back from Directv, and I love it that I don't have to pay for each extra outlet (I have four tv's in the house). We only have digital in the living room. I did a dishout thing, so for the same price I paid for directv, I have shows on 4 tvs + HBO (where I previously had just one working television and no premium channels.)

I do miss PBS kids, but other than that, everything seems pretty much the same to me.
