Simpsons 5-16-04

While not what it used to be, this show can still pull some clever satire. Tonight's ep. is exceptional in that regard.

yes
excellent episode
best of this year
very timely (unlike other episodes this year)

the government knows best act LOL

'dont shoot that walrus will eat them'
'no thats the dad'
'what? he is eating a seal'
(show homer with half seal in his mouth) LOL

I thought it went from the worst second acts of all time (countless retread of going on a cable talk show) to one of the best third acts of all time (relentless, razor sharp political satire). So biting, the show almost felt unfamiliar.

I thought it was a really weak episode to be quite honest. But I guess I got sick of these jokes when I heard them a million other places. More timely than star wars, but still way too late.

But I guess to each their own.

Best....Episode....This....Year.

silentbob007 05-17-04 07:09 AM

The episode seemed a little too scatterbrained to be consistantly funny ... way too much setup for the payoff when almost any single "segment" of the show could have been better served by being its own episode.

syphon00 05-17-04 07:36 AM

I can see government agents storming into Groening's house taking him to the re-education center...he he

Jason 05-17-04 03:36 PM

I gotta start recording these again. This one needs to be watched more than once.

Me007gold 05-17-04 06:07 PM

dont you mean the re-neducation center ;)

Pants 05-18-04 06:07 PM

Satire is all well and good...but where were the laughs?

fumanstan 05-18-04 06:39 PM

Enjoyed the episode and laughed throughout the whole show. Too bad we'll always have people proclaiming the Simpsons dead.

This year? Probably best episode in the last three seasons. IMHO of course. Sadly, I think they writers got it too right.

While there were definitely great parts, I found it really uneven. Not the best of the year, but definitely in the top tier.

SunMonkey 05-18-04 10:30 PM

 Didn't thrill me. Certainly not one of the best this year.
