Simpsons 05/02/04

Several laughs in this one. Great Spider-Man parody with Marge kissing an upside-down Homer in the rain. It's nice to see they continually remember to have Xtapolapocetl (sp?) in the basement.

Pie-Man and Cupcake Boy!

Groucho 05-03-04 08:30 AM

I was hoping they'd go the "Willy Wonka" route and have Homer find the Golden Ticket and tour the pork plant. But it still worked with the direction they went.

RoyalTea 05-03-04 08:36 AM

the "it's not an island, it's a peninsula" joke was funny the first time they did it.

Refresh my memory. When did they do that joke before?

That whole spoof of dating reality shows had me rolling.

wildcatlh 05-03-04 08:44 AM

From "Lisa on Ice"...

Lisa: I _have_ to join the team or I'll get an F that will haunt me for the rest of my life.
[in the future, Lisa is being sworn in]
Man: I now pronounce you President of these United --
Reporter: Stop the inauguration! I just discovered our President Elect got an F in second grade gym class!
[crows gasps; Lisa is handcuffed]
Man: In that case I sentence you to a lifetime of horror on Monster Island. [to Lisa] Don't worry, it's just a name.
[Lisa and others are chased by fire-breathing monsters]
Lisa: He said it was just a name!
Man: What he meant is that Monster Island is actually a peninsula.

Groucho 05-03-04 08:46 AM

Yeah, I remember now. To be fair, the joke was used in an entirely different way this time.

yeah, i loved how they used the "rock of rejection" against anybody displaying intelligence, personality, or ethnicity.

seems like the past couple of weeks have been spoofing things (spiderman, star wars, something else last week)... like they are almost a year or 2 behind

was it just me or did anyone else see ralph wiggum on the conveyur belt as being one of the pigs ground up on the video of the pork plant?

silentbob007 05-03-04 09:00 AM

No, Ralph was on the belt ...

and I had the exact same feeling about the timliness of the parody.

j123vt_99 05-03-04 09:01 AM

ok.. good.. i had taken some allergy medicine, so i wasn;t 100% sure :)

This is unavoidable due to the long production time to make each episode. It's always been that way.

j123vt_99 05-03-04 09:08 AM

how can a show like south park make fun of a topic the same week, but the simpsons takes months\years?

Because of the way the animation is done.

Deftones 05-03-04 09:23 AM

While I'd agree that it takes the animators longer to create an episode of the Simpsons, do you really think it takes 2 years an episode? I find that time period a bit long.

Groucho 05-03-04 09:25 AM

The entire production cycle for a Simpson's episode is well-documented. I believe the turnaround time is 18 months, from conception to premiere. Like I said, it's always been that way.

tofu 05-03-04 09:39 AM

Even though the spoofing was old, there was still quite a bit to laugh at during the episode. I liked it.

Rypro 525 05-03-04 09:57 AM

it takes a few days to do a south park episode, and if they want to spoof something very current (Saddam in a hole), they probably did the animation in a day and sent it in at the last second.

Promiscuous Idiot Island

"... and a rock to the girl that possesses any intelligence, dignity and ethnicity"... whack!

Gasspasser 05-03-04 11:34 AM

Great ep, better than I expected

MrX 05-03-04 11:58 AM

Good episode

The bachelor spoof and Ralph on the belt had me rolling:lol:

the narrator 05-03-04 12:59 PM

Definately one of my favorites in awhile

resinrats 05-03-04 01:13 PM

I remember that the South Park where the kids go to Canada in a Wizard of Oz spoof aired only a few days after Sadam was caught (they used a picture of scruffy beard Sadam in the episode)
What I think happened there was they either actually were going to use Sadam in the episode and just went back and put in beard Sadam or they replaced whoever was the wizard with Sadam's head.
They didn't do the whole episode in a few days, there was a special about South Park production process. Much shorter than a Simpsons ep but not possible in 2 days.

mmconhea 05-03-04 02:19 PM

The quality of animation has gone up quite a bit this year. I'm seeing more bold animation moves- more 3D-like camera movements.
