MXC - Almost Live 4/22

MXC Almost Live with Tony Hawk & Tara Dakides. Pretty hilarious stuff more so since they set up the same course over at Universal Studios Orlando.

From the Orlando Sentinel:

Spike TV launches the third season of its Most Extreme Elimination Challenge at 10 tonight with an episode filmed in Orlando. MXC Almost Live features students from the University of Central Florida and other colleges, along with celebrity coaches: skateboard king Tony Hawk and top snowboarder Tara Dakides.

They didn't over-dub Tony or Tara but they did with the kids. Wish this happened here, I woulda done it!

The sponsorship was a bit much, but otherwise decent stuff. One of the highest scoring games I can recall.

one of the reason it was high scoring, was it was an hour long.

thought the "log roll" was too easy at the end.

Wow, I'm watching it now and they made a Libby Hoeller reference during the game in which they had to swing and try to stick to the wall.

Ok, you do realize that the scoring in the original Most Extreme Elimination Challenge was made up, right? MXC uses footage from a 1980s Japanese game show called Takeshi's Castle. This footage is edited, arranged, and overdubbed to create the derivative show MXC. Not all of the footage from any given episode of Takeshi's Castle is used in an apisode of MXC--only the funniest stuff I imagine.

Also, the goal of Takeshi's Castle is completely different from MXC, and there was no scoring per se. From what I understand, the game started with 100 contestants, with each challenge weeding out more and more. Those who survived get to attempt to storm the castle at the end. MXC has created an entirely different game from this footage and added the artificial scoring etc. as part of that. The "Almost Live" show is the only real MXC game played so far. Since the scoring in the "Almost Live" show was real, there wasn't some editor putting together footage leading to a particular outcome.

Yes, and it's still just as funny. I love this show.

Oh come on - this was LAME! I hope the rest of the new shows aren't "Americanized". I want to see dubbed-over Japanese people getting hurt - not some stoner college kids!!!

I thought this was kinda lame too. The courses were totally downsized. Falls weren't as high, courses shorter, and most notably the log roll at the end was so small and close together people were just running over it. Fairly lame.

Some good jokes in there, but I'll be waiting to see the real show.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who really didn't like this ep.

bleh - didn't care much for it either... I think it was the snowboarding chick that did it for me - she was annoying. It seemed to take away the magic and just add mockery. Watching it reminded me of watching Double Dare on Nickelodeon or something. I prefer the real thing.

I do hope they have more of the Japanese version. This was funny, but there certainly was something missing with it.
