The Restaurant: s2-e1 4/19

Am I the only one who watched this?

Had no idea it was due back last night, but somehow my wife was aware of it, which means it was covered on news radio in NYC.

Kinda reminded me of the Seinfeld rental car reservation scene: yes, the restaurant is packed, but that really doesn't matter if it doesn't MAKE SOME MONEY......

Flashback 04-20-04 07:44 AM

I watched the first season and actually enjoyed it a lot. This season was advertised a lot during the Apprentice (or at least the last few shows).

I did enjoy last nights episode. Rocco seems to be a little childish, the head chef (Tony) is a trip.

I was laughing about the cost of business cards.

Jobronie 04-20-04 07:55 AM

My thoughts EXACTLY:

the business card scene was hysterical, and Rocco is such a child ("No cameras", "No comment", and over-the-top exit flinging open the doors).

Rome is burning, and Rocco is busy flirting with chunky chicks.

Looks like Drew is gonna be fun; he is SO Chodorow's toady........

It's weird but I think he has the same hand gestures as the Donald.

I felt bad for the kitchen manager who was supposed to take notes at the meeting for Rocco and then afterwards, Rocco yelled at him and all he could say was "thank you". Rocco's a jerk.

And poor mama. She doesn't know that he's a jerk.

I liked it and am looking forward to this season. Watching the first season made me realized what a spoiled, big headed, jackass Rocco is and I liked everything about the first season; aside from him. This season so far looks to prove that he is a spoiled, big headed jackass, and I'm all for that

Something tells me that Rocco's going to learn fairly quickly that the papers he signed a year ago don't make ita 50/50 partnership like he thinks.

I saw a few of the eps last season, and I watched the last ten minutes of last night's show - and Rocco again proves what an ass he is. His bloated head is ready to explode!!! And could the cry-baby have looked any more retarded than when he stormed out of the place after Jeff addressed them at the table?

His mom is deluded in regards to her son - how sad.

I'm still surprised that they brought this show back for another season.

How could everyone at Rocco's (Rocco, the staff) been so upset about the notion of change to get the business profitable? If the restaurant isn't making money, they are all out of jobs very quickly. Surely they could understand that? Who wants to work at a business that loses money?

I'm sure some of the behavior seen from Rocco and others is solely due to the show - they edit in and out different video to create the story they want to tell - not necessarily the story that really occurred minute to minute. I believe some of Rocco's bad attitude is "created" for the show.

crap I completely forgot this was on last night. Now if this was Bravo they would repeat it later in the week... oh well..

Sure...of course they make it look worse...not much really needed actually...but from last season there were many employees that were pretty upset with how he handles the place when he is around...as well as always being away to cater to his 'celebrity' status...which I cannot figure out.

Rocco's behavior is a classic example of how talented people can be very poor in business, but I agree that the editing probably makes him seem worse than he is. I actually felt a bit sorry for him, though who can blame Chodorow for wanting to recoup his losses.

What I don't get is why the corporate chef appears to have so much say in this whole mess? He is just waiting to can Rocco's ass.

I already cannot stand Drew, but I think he makes for good tv. I love how he can say in one sentence that he's very positive and open-minded, but he already knows he cannot stand Rocco.

Looking forward to next week!

There isn't one minute of this show that doesn't feel staged, yet I watch..............

This is how I feel. It's such obvious intentional manipulation, but it's entertaining nonetheless, so I watch and enjoy. Loved how the previews for this season were about 50% moments from last season. Good ol' NBC.

kind of unrelated, but I really enjoyed the 1st season of family business on showtime, but the 2nd season just seemed so staged and preconceived that it really made it seem dumb. I didn't see this episode, but I worry that this show will do the same.

big whoppa 04-21-04 01:36 AM

Surprisingly, I enjoyed the 1st season. The second season isn't shaping to be all that interesting. They've built the restaurant so all the fuss will be about day-to-day restaurant problems. They've already shown Rocco flirting with all the women, fires in the kitchen, people slipping on the floor, etc. If there is a third season, I'll really be surprised again.
