My So-Called life is one of my favorite series ever, and Freaks and Geeks is spectacular as well. I would highly recommend both, but MSCL definately is a bit more "mushy" than F&G. If you don't mind that, or if your Claire crush is a big one, you should like MSCL as well.

It's less painful for me to have to live with one season of MSCL because it can really stand alone as a one year, very powerful look at the life of a 15/16 year old girl around 1994. It's stands alone in a way, even though it's a shame there weren't future seasons.

But Freaks and Geeks really looked at life of a lot of different characters and, while it's a great show and I have to have it, it's harder for me to see it without feeling it's not at all complete or satisfying. When the last show in the dvd set ends, I don't feel like it will have the same feeling as I get from MSCL where it's like I am at least reasonably satisfied with the time I got with Angela and her friends and family. With Freaks and Geeks it just will end with no closure and with the feeling that I want to see what happens to these kids for a few more years at least.

I think he's 18. I'm surprised he hasn't seen Wonder Years, I'm only 3 years older than him and I've seen it.

Anyway, Freaks and Geeks was a good show. Not sure if I'll be buying the set though.

well, i have seen one or two wonder years episodes via lunch at school last year (a tv in the cafeteria helped) and didn't really care for it. and is there a way to get mscl a little cheaper then 99.99? seems a bit steep, don't you think.

I loved the Wonder Years. I think growing up with Kevin, Winnie & Paul definitely helps on that one, other than catching re-runs long after it has been on the air.

You didn't like the Wonder Years? I think you'll have to check it out again. One of the best shows on tv.

Freaks and Geeks was an excellent show. I'm eager to pick up the box set because I never got to see all of the episodes.

I was never as into My So Called Life as others and at the time it was out, I watched it, but wasn't hooked. I'm actually curious to see it again if only because I was only about 2-3 years older than Claire Daines character when the show was on. It could bring back some memories.

Wonder Years has so many similarities with Freaks and Geeks. The gym classes. The awkardness. Bill even, in many ways, seems like a clone of Paul Phieffer. How Sam looks at Cindy seems like a replica of how Kevin looked at Winnie, etc.

saw a mscl episode last night on the noggin network (digital cable), i think it was called "dancing in the dark". I really liked it, and no matter how much i hate those damn pop ups on the screen, and commercials in general, i don't really got the money now to spend on this or freaks.

I've got an extra MSCL set that I'd sell. It not in wrap, but it's complete, mint, and unwatched (except for the first disc).

Were There Any Fans of NBC's "Freaks and Geeks?"

I know it's on DVD now, but I'm wondering if there was anyone here who watched the show when it originally aired. What did you think of it? How did you like the characters/storylines/music, etc...

Yup - I remember when I first saw the pilot.

I was in college and it was on a Saturday night. WTF...right? Anyway, glad I stayed in that night and watched it.

I only saw it once or twice when it was on. I seem to recall it was on a bad night of the week (Friday?) and this was before I got ReplayTV (now Tivo).

I caught up seeing them all when repeats aired on the Family channel.

I remember watching the show's entire run on NBC and being crushed when they cut it from their line-up.

I watched about half of the episodes on NBC, thought it was really good. But I read that ratings were poor, and I knew it wouldn't make it, despite all the fan groups appealing to NBC to save it. Excellent portrayal of high school life.

I saw it once but then they moved the time and I couldn't find it. NBC should've aired this on a weeknight when people were home.

I watched when it aired it all-too-sproradically, and when the cancellation was impending, I was the one of many that tried to save the show on the website with the petition drive and all. NBC is/was my least favorite network, although this show I made an exception to watch.

It's too bad the popularity and sales of the DVDs couldn't bring back the show, but it'd be too late for that since all the characters would be in college now. It would've been nice if the show lasted long for the characters to graduate high school; it would've ended the series nicely. I really thought it would have been nice to see how the characters would evolve.
