Freaks and Geeks Discussion

Re: Your Freaks & Geeks story
I kind of think that some of the charm is lost regarding this show due to the actors' gargantuan success post-cancellation. Sounds odd to say considering how much I love it, but the overexposure of actors like Rogen, Segel, Franco and even Apatow makes the show (or at least the idea of the show) feel different now.
It's like learning that the quaint bed and breakfast you loved growing up has been replaced with an iHop.

I have no idea if it was NBC, or ABC family, but i saw Haverchuck say " No JR...don't go in there...it's a trap" and i was hooked.
Ended up getting the yearbook edition, and this reminds me it is time for a marathon. Endless replay value.
Now that i think about it, lots of quotes have have found their way into my life
"Yeah Nick, grab me a piece..." Complete with the little hand gestures.
"You mean like...circus freaks?"
"...Do you know what happened to him? He died!"

Is there any chance of a F & G reunion? I think a movie taking place during a High School reunion would be cool. Apatow is a big enough player in Hollywood to pull this off.

Re: Your Freaks & Geeks story
Never saw the show on TV, but I did pick up the DVD set as a blind-buy during a DeepDiscount sale based on positive reviews and word-of-mouth (that was probably around mid-2004). After watching the pilot, I didn't see what the big deal was. But over the course of the following episode (the kegger), it clicked. I've watched the set a bunch of times in the years since (just finished a run-through about 2 weeks ago, in fact) and it never ceases to feel fresh.
It's funny, even after first watching the show as late as 2004, if you'd told me that Seth Rogen and Jason Segel would go on to greater success, I would have thought you were crazy. Seth Rogen in particular wasn't a very good actor at the time of F&G, but neither of those guys struck me as "leading man" types. And even though he was only in one episode, the same goes for Shia LaBeouf.

I would love to see where these characters are in the early 1990s. Get going, Apatow -- make it happen!

Just finished watching this, great series. There were a couple of weak episodes around ep5, but it picked up again after that.
Its amazing how many of todays actors were in that show in minor roles.
Joanna Garcia, Leslie Mann, Shia Labeouf, Wallace from Veronica Mars (Percy Daggs).
Linda Cardellini also looked like Ellen Page in it.

Love this show. My favorite scene that sticks with me is playing dodgeball in the gym. The slo-mo of Bill getting pelted in the head with the coach looking on with delight is just priceless.

Or you can just watch any Judd Apatow movie ever.
Whoever did the casting for that show deserves some sort of award.

I'm not familiar with all of them. But you have the three big guys are Franco, Siegel and Rogen.
Jason Schwartzman is in the exact pose and position I'd expect him to be in (in a good way, haha).

There's a pretty cool "What would've happened in season two" article here:
