LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- CBS has pulled the plug on midseason drama "Century City" after four airings.

The series, revolving around a high-end Los Angeles law firm in the year 2030, had little ratings traction in the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot, where it went up against Fox's "American Idol." In its final, March 30 screening, it wan fourth for the hour with an average of 7.7 million viewers.

The ensemble cast included Viola Davis, Nestor Carbonell, Hector Elizondo and Eric Schaeffer.

It was created by veteran "Law & Order" scribe Ed Zuckerman, who executive produced with Oscar-nominated "Quiz Show" writer Paul Attanasio and Attanasio's wife, Katie Jacobs.

CBS will fill the void from next week with "The Guardian," which had held down the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot until it was benched to make room for "Century City."

Well, that lasted long.

Morf 04-01-04 10:49 AM

Wow, that was fast. I just watched the most recent episode, and thought that it was pretty good.

It may have stood a chance if 2 of the 4 episodes hadn't been preempted or started late. Duh, CBS.

Red Dog 04-01-04 10:54 AM

Not surprised. It was okay - I liked the concept.

OldDude 04-01-04 11:37 AM

Q: Oy, who could have seen that coming?
(A: nearly everybody)

Mourn 04-01-04 12:19 PM

Damn, I liked thid show and even though i fully expected it to be cancelled, i still hoped it would stay.

They only made four episodes?

Jackskeleton 04-01-04 12:27 PM

Another fantasy show that was canceled before it had a chance. :p who would have guessed.

I believe they made 8. CBS originally planned to air the remaining episodes over the next 4 Tuesdays before going back to new Guardian episodes in May. CBS simply cut it short figuring that they can do better w/ Guardian re-runs in that slot.

I kinda like Century City. That's too bad.

movieking 04-01-04 01:53 PM

Never should have made it to air, IMO.

The Dude 04-01-04 04:13 PM

Wow, so what promo is CBS going to fill our airwaves with during the Final Four this weekend?

Wow, who would have guess that it would fail to bring in viewers against the number #1 show on Wednesday? A title that even The Apprentice was unable to upset.

Geofferson 04-02-04 08:32 AM

haha...not surprised by this move.

javanut 04-02-04 10:57 AM

Jeez. So quick.
