Funny, every time I turn it on it's videos.

I actually prefer shows to music videos. I mean - a music video is 3 minutes tops... that means - assuming there's 10 minutes of commercials every half hour - they can fit about 12 music videos per hour when you include the VJ talking about it. So in a 24 hour period, you could be exposed to over 200 music videos... or something like 1500 music videos in a week. Now, the reality of this is that they only have about 10-20 videos in heavy rotation - which means having to see the same videos over and over and over and over and over. Even when Mtv was used for music videos over 50% of the time - watching it got far too repetitive and annoying. So basically, I'm glad they don't stick to just music on that channel. At least the news is typically music related and it seems they try to cater programming to an audience that is into music.

Be that as it may... :) ...I still don't think the "As for the Mtv playing music videos - that's what Mtv2 is for" bit is entirely accurate, since the presence of music videos has so greatly diminished on MTV2 as of late. With the long-overdue demise of Kung-Faux on Fuse, their programming...aside from infomercials...seems to be much more music-centric than MTV2, which is kinda scattershot. Fuse has a lot of dreck -- that awful, awful show where they divide the screen in four with part devoted to the music video and the rest showing extreme sports -- but at least if I turn on Fuse after 11 AM, I'm pretty much assured that I'll see something music-related. I also watch VH1 Classics a lot too, and they're almost 100% music videos. They have clear shows, not just random videos (like MTV Hits), but the shows are grouped music videos or live performances.

El Scorcho 03-30-04 04:05 PM

I'd rather MTV play shows than videos since most of the videos are pure shit anyway.

I'm from Southern California(where the show is based), and around here it's the Mexicans who do all the stealing....

Same could be said about their shows, but I'm a sucker for their shows, so I agree.

Careful - I caught a vacation from DVDTalk awhile ago for saying that my car was stolen by a "mexican"... apparently that's racist.

Well, according to the above posters it's being a "realist"....

great show, I was just wondering who pays for the work? they put in alot of money into these cars. best ep for me was the honda, loved when the girl told grandma that xzibit was going to pimp her ride, and zxibit was like fix, fix her ride :)

Because, of course - heavens forbid - we should play anything other than the top 40 mainstream music that Clearchannel or Viacom or the Record Companies dictate.

I'm pretty sure that there are more than 2000 music videos in existence.

(Sorry - about to veer WAY into tangent territory here)

The long and the short of it - every time I surf past one of the MTV's - which admittedly isn't all that often anymore - it's always seems to be Real World or one of the RW knockoffs. The only place I ever see videos anymore is VH1.

(Oh, how I long for the days of Night Flight - 3 solid hours of kick ass music videos, then a cult movie that wrapped up JUST in time for headbangers ball on MTV. . . . )

It's probably a combination of West Coast Customs donating the labor for the vehicle and MTV picking up the rest of the tab as part of the production costs. Outside of that I bet it's a very low budget show. :)

What's this week's car?

My brother got a ride to school in the Oscar Meyer Weiner-Mobile once. I saw the pics - pretty damn funny.

WCC does the work for free because they are get great advertising by the show(not that need it, due to most of their clientele being millionaires)

and the actual products are donated by the companies for air time as well, that is why they mainly use Clarion decks in the cars.(greta company, but they could use better decks)

BT 04-08-04 01:10 PM

But that ride is already pimped out Scorch :p

I guess it could use more chrome and some Dubs...

edited to add: I saw the commercial for tonight's episode and they restore this girl's completely trashed Mustang (Looks like a 70's era 'Stang))

Trigger 04-08-04 01:27 PM

Oooh... I wanna see that... I have a '68 mustang. :)

:( I had a 66 coupe in high school/college but one night the oil pan exploded while I was driving down the interstate. It literally blew off in a ball of fire.

I was too poor to get it fixed so I had to sell it for parts. I miss that car :(

My favorite episode has been the Hi-Flight minivan or whatever it was called. Not only did it turn out pretty awesome, they reactions from all the "car guys" who saw it was hilarious.

What a weird car...

spainlinx0 04-08-04 03:08 PM

Maybe they are doing the actual stealing, but as we know from the Sopranos, it's Tony and his crew ordering the cars. :)

rabbit77 04-08-04 09:39 PM

Watching this show for the first time tonight. I'm not a car guy but this show is fun to watch. Especially since it's obvious the chosen car owners are passionate towards their hoopties. The reactions of the WCC crew is hilarious pre-pimping. And the surfer girl who owns the '67 Mustang is too cute.

Trelach24 04-08-04 10:20 PM

What actually percentage of the original car is left after they finish with them?

It seems to me they're closer to just giving these people new cars than to "fixing" them.

Some of these cars seem beyond the point of no return.

of course, I can barely figure out where the oil goes so I know nothing about cars.

Da Thrilla 04-09-04 01:17 AM

Just watched the Mustang ep...damn that looked good. Too bad they couldn't keep the flame-throwers
