So far, there's a low energy vibe to this episode...

Patman 03-14-04 08:59 PM

Well, it picked up the pace, though not much of the ongoing plotlines were furthered, except that Sydney is ready to admit openly how she feels about Vaughn. Sark took a nasty left from Vaughn, which was surprising that he couldn't slither away because he's so good at it.

Having Jack showing more of his bad ass side was nice touch to get Ryan to spill the beans on deactivating the bombs. But, it didn't seem like that would be enough because he was already ready to die as both bombs were activated. So, I was skeptical about the second chance at dying would really do the trick.

Venusian 03-14-04 08:59 PM

atleast it wasnt half an episode shown twice like last week

i think the point was supposed to be that he saw there was no "bright light" after death for him like jack said to him.

movieking 03-14-04 09:02 PM

Great to see Gervais on Alias. I was waiting for this ever since it was announced. Great not to see Lauren too.

MrX 03-14-04 09:04 PM

Badass Jack:thumbsup:

As soon as Syd told him she was Julia I figured he was going to double cross them.

I was surprised Sark didn't get away also.

Ranger 03-14-04 09:08 PM

This was a good episode until the last minute ruined it. :)

Dr. DVD 03-14-04 09:14 PM

Didn't see it, Sopranos take priority. :)

Isn't Alias last in its timeslot among the major networks? If so, I wonder how it manages to stay on the air since its ratings are always less than stellar.

Venusian 03-14-04 09:14 PM

it costs 2 mill an episode too. i'm guessing dvd sales are really good.

what was bad about the last minute? did i miss osmething?

All right, go back through all the seasons and count how many times Sydney has cried. If I got a dollar every time she cried, tell me how rich I would be. :)

Dr. DVD 03-14-04 09:34 PM

If I had a dollar for everytime Syd either cried or looked like she was going to, I would have more money than Bill Gates.

resinrats 03-14-04 09:54 PM

I just have to ask. Have they ever said what the Convenent wants to do? Why do they exist? Do they want to take over the world, cause democracy to fail, want the McRib always to be sold? Are they anything besides being this season's villians? At least Cobra in G.I.Joe had some goals.

Jadzia 03-14-04 10:09 PM

Funny that the CIA fell for the Nina-on-24 phone-in a double-cross trick. I kept feeling like I had already seen that happen before but then I remembered it was Nina on 24 who did it.

Can't believe that Syd told Ricky Gervais all that stuff and even mentioned Julua Thorne by name. Hello? TMI. I hope Syd isn't that forthcoming with all the CIA secrets.

I noticed that after the timer stopped on the bomb that the red light didn't go to green so I was surprised that the whole thing was turned off.

You know it's bad when Vaughn and Sark are in a fight scene and you find yourself rooting for Sark. :D

I wonder where Lauren was? Thought it would have been funny if she showed up on the plane with Sark as his "wife".

Funny how Vaughn posed as the guy boning his wife. I laughed when Ricky Gervais called him/Sark "a pretty boy."

Hallelujah!

I knew they couldn't make it to the end of an ep w/out Syd crying. ;)

I was very surprised about the outcome of the Sark/Vaughn scuffle. It's about damn time Vaughn sacked up. Sark is just so damn good, I thought for sure he would get away after the bomb was deactivated/neutralized.

In regards to Sloane and the pshrink - she's just stupid and it is degrading the whole storyline. Yeah, I know - that is really hard to do w/ some of the crap they pull on this show, but that is the worst.

Spy-Daddy proves once again that he has BMF inscribed on his wallet.

I hope Weiss busts Lauren's ass - the sooner the better. I just have a gut feeling he will die in the process.

yeah, what is up with that? the shrink did a post-doctorate study on him (yeah, right, humanitatian saves the world), she sees how he uses and manipulates people.

I guess shes enamored with him and fell in the bed after that dinner date. too much wine???

mookiemeister 03-15-04 12:09 AM

Good episode. Good twist to have Sydney/Julia be the person who killed Ryan's brother and that her trying to plead with him actually backfired.

Not sure what's going on with this storyline, but I think we should just wait and see how the writers develop it.

PapaWheelie 03-15-04 12:15 AM

Well, after two less-than-stellar episodes it looks like Alias is back. Hopefully it stays consistent from here on out.

Couldn't have said it better!! It's got my vote for best moment of the season, so far.

Cut her some slack - psychiatrists need sex too. :)

"Do you know an eight letter word for 'arrogance'?"

Was anyone else hoping that "Sark" would be Marshall?

"Mon dieu! What do you want now?!?"

I caught the west coast feed and watched him closely. You can see it register when Sydney tells him her cover name. It's subtle, I missed it at 9:00.

namja 03-15-04 01:48 AM

Alias is getting less and less interesting ... *sigh* ...

kantonburg 03-15-04 05:53 AM

Yawn.

Was this supposed to be tied into the storyline or are they going in a different direction now?

Chew 03-15-04 06:04 AM

There were several times last night I felt like Gervais slipped into his old character and David Brent was the man behind the bombings. ;)

Either my affiliate or the network didn't broadcast in HD

I caught that as well. I sat there thinking 'what is that look about' and then the light bulb turned on and the CIA building almost went boom. Liked the episode though I too could have lived without Syd crying. SpyDaddy is just too cool for words and I still wish they would give Dixon something more to do - the previews for next week show that I might get my wish. I'll wait and reserve judgement on the shrink/Sloan thing but the Gervais calling Sark/Vaughn a pretty boy was freaking hilarious.

neale 03-15-04 08:33 AM

The whole fake hotel room thing reminded me of the opening of Mission:Impossible (the movie). Pretty good episode, though.

Eight-letter word for arrogance: audacity?

I noticed that near the end. I always wondered what would happen if David Brent went nutso.

Yeah, but the more pressing issue would be if you could give away that money if Vaughn did this:

[sad music plays - "So alone. So allllooonnnnneeeeee..."
[Syd cries]
[Vaughn walks to Syd - looks at her]
What are you doing?
[music abruptly stops]
What are you doing?!!
"Are you crying?!!
There's no crying in the CIA!!!

:D

Okay, now I'll add some actual thought on the episode.

Jack is the man. I love his scowl at the end.
I don't understand why they have Syd with the crazy hair? It looks cool but don't you want to attract less attention to yourself?

The episode was okay but didn't really seem to move the storyline much.

Meatpants 03-15-04 03:07 PM

Why did they have to bother building the replica hotel room, down to the 700 count sheets? Couldn't they have just tricked him into staying in his real hotel room?

Sydney is hot, her Dad is a BMF

JuryDuty 03-15-04 03:59 PM

I really enjoyed last night's episode. After a lackluster first half of the season, it's finally getting exciting again. Maybe I think this because Jack is back in form, Sloane is bad again, Sydney and Vaugn are back together...basically, season 2.

FinkPish 03-15-04 05:31 PM

My favorite part of last night's episode was the slam cut from the Irish bomb squad cutting the wire to the pictures of the destroyed building. Excellent way to get the point across without a lot of flashy slo-mo explosions (cheaper too, I guess).

A_ _ HOLE?

That was my guess!

Great episode...I could have dealt without the Syd crying bit....not conivincing at all. Vaughn did manage to look cool when he saw her in the parking lot. Jack rules. I'm glad that they toned Marshall down a little bit with the slapstick.
Sark is great....you know he'll just escape French custody.
I kept hoping he'd tell Vaughan that he was doing his wife!

Anyone know when we can expect the season finale? ABC said it's all new for the "rest of the season", but I bet they'd pull Alias before May sweeps, or the very least have it REALLY early in May. Anyone know??
