World Poker Tour – Foxwoods 3.10.04
I’ve finally decided this show is supposed to be a comedy.
They show someone going out “on the bubble” – with $93k. Typically, a player on the bubble doesn’t get a dime. Sexton thinks 9-7 suited is a “nice hand.” -ohbfrank- Mike and Vince arguing over how to pronounce Phil’s name was momentarily funny. From the Stoopid Editing department: Van Patten announces the commercial break, and says “We’re down to four.” Funny, since there’s only three at the table, unless you count the dealer. -rolleyes- I’m almost to the point of hitting the mute button on this show. |
I cringe every time Vince uses the "name" of someone's hand. Foxwood included Dolly Parton (9-5) and I believe Speedlimit (5-5).
However, the all time greatest was West Hollywood (Q-Q). Vince is such an ass! |
He was correct in his "that dude looks like the cowboy in Westworld"
My friends would kick my ass and send me packing if I used his hand names. |
I sort of enjoy watching Hellmuth lose on a bad beat on the river. But usually, it's the only way to beat the guy, by getting lucky and then soaking him for all he's got.
|
Some more of Vince’s faves:
American Airlines (A-A) Cowboys (K-K) Baskin Robbins (3-A) Kojack (K-J) I don’t think he would know about Broderick Crawford (10-4) or Flat Tire (J-4) Some others Vince (maybe) should stay away from: Gay Waiter (Q-3) Posh Gay Waiter (Q-3 suited) Big Lick (6-9) Prom Night (6-9 suited) Personally, I think using hand nicknames is a bit low class. Although I’m quite fond of Split (7-10), if only because I take credit for inventing it. But I’ve never used it. Hellmouth is just plain fun to watch. I’m hoping he’ll be at the Bike this weekend. |
For as much of an ass as he can be, sometimes I feel bad for Phil. Those running 7s were pretty rough.
When I was a wee tike, I played bingo with my grandparents and their friends, and there was a senile man in his 80s that would yell "two two!!!" every time I-22 was called. He was a nice man, and it was endearing. I'm not sure how to segue from telling that story to wanting to kick Van Patten in the nuts every time he names a hand, but there you have it. das |
Quack quack.
;) |
they wont use it on WPT but my favorite is
The German Virgin 99 :D |
that kid didn't do half bad.
I wish I had won ~$250,000 at his age |
I heard 44 - mid-life crisis used too.
|
Don't forget Jackson 5 (J-5) :D

The Walgreens (5-10)

Originally posted by Charlie Goose According to Phil, he usually does have excellent instincts Seriously, if Phil is as good as he says he is about reading players, he shouldn’t have to suffer any “bad beats.” He says to Sam Grizzle, “How could you play a hand like that?” And I have to wonder, “How could you not know he was playing a hand like that?!?” |

Q = gay
3 = w (sideways) => waiter |
:lol:
Close. Try queen with a trey. And for the J-4 reference: "What's a jack for?" |
I was keeding...
|
I thought the battle between Phil and the cowboy guy was pretty good to watch. Phil really wanted to get him back for those couple of hands.
|
Hoyt didn't deserve to win after he kept going all in on shit hands. He played well with multiple players at the table, but he 1 on 1 he sucks.
Always good to see Phil Hellmuth fall short. I hate him. He's a whiney little girl. He's the Barry Bonds of poker. |
this episode was the first I remember seeing Phil, and he pissed me off. I wanted to punch him, I think because he reminds we of this tool I went to school with

Originally posted by Morf I disagree. He was the chip leader by a landslide. Why wouldn't he want to throw around his weight? |

Originally posted by Deftones, Esq But when you are calling all-in on an 8-3 non suited hand, please. When you’ve got guys like Sexton and VanP calling a raise with 7-2 offsuit a gutsy move, it makes no sense judging hands. 8-3 off is exactly the hand that busted me out of a tournament Sunday at the Bike. And against my AK. Any time you call an all-in bet, you are gonna play to the river. When you’re playing No Foldem, balls and money are the only things that count. |
