black queer as folk coming
|
I'd be interested in watching a show that focused primarily on black gay characters; however, I can't say I'm too interested in a show that so heavily defines itself in that way. When I ask, "what's it about? why should I watch?" the answer should be more than "black gay people, silly!" I do hope they find funding, though, as I'd be interested in seeing some successful TV-style straight-to-video projects.

I really hope that somebody decides to take a cancelled TV series straight-to-DVD sooner rather than later. While I'd love to see a show like Angel do this, I really find it doubtful that it will happen. I would have loved to see it happen with Miracles, and I believe that I just might want to see that happen with Wonderfalls if it's as good as I have heard and if it dies like most people are expecting due to the woeful timeslot.
Getting back to the premise -- I really hope that the QAF/SitC/SF comparison is just the way they have chosen to market the show and not what the pitch consisted of. It seems to me that these "x meets y" pitches are usually how we get the weakest new series. I didn't want to see Law & Order meet sex crimes (even if SVU is the best L&O at this point). I don't want to see The Sopranos meets Joan of Arcadia. I don't want to see The Office meets an American cast. |
Why does it have to be an exclusively 'black' gay man show?

I guess the handicapped asian-jewish queer as folk spin-off is not far off.
Not that there's anything wrong with that! |
Was bad enough that we needed an american version of a british gay show, now we need a blakc one? aren't you guys supposed to be all open minded and supportive and shit? ;)
|
I wish. It's not so much that we're a closed minded nation as that we're bred from the "O No You Di'n't" school of thought. So when any special interest group says, "accept me," we get up on our haunches and say "F you! I'll accept who I wanna accept ... bitch." Then the special interest group calls, "shenanigans!" The rest scream, "RABBLE!!!" And before you know it, computer-animated shows no one will watch that haven't even aired are censored, the NFL attempt to be the moral authority for the nation, and talentless civil engineering students are awarded record contacts. Welcome to the US of A. Check your sanity at the door.
das P.S. It's still better than Canadia :p |
This is a democratic society. As long as the ratings are good and there is an audience for the show, it will succeed.
|
P.S. It's still better than Canadia But like, Americans work too, all the same thing! PS. Canada has more moose than you! and do YOU have Senator Palpatine on your money? do you? you don't? well haha, my star wars money beats your money that looks like it's from Ancient Rome! Also, your money smells. I have NO IDEA WHY, but US bills must absorb oders and moisture or something... |
 "Oh, I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive ..."
Btw, we're notorious for bluff-washing our hands when leaving the lavatory, hence the money thing. das |
All these friggin gay shows. Ok, we get it. Gays are entertaining!!
Now I know how you white guys feel when they add yet another black shows to the Dubya-B Network. :D |
Suddenly i am reminded of the single greatest gay black man in cinema history
Hooper X. Except Hooper was cool and this show sounds rather "me too". |
Futher research yield's even less "fruitful" details. ;) Not only is the site's "about" page a self-reference, there is no more information regarding this show being pushed or supported by any network. The only "press releases" over at GLAAD is more that a month old and a yadda-yadda repetion of the shows "QAF meet SATC meet Soul Food mantra". One Canadian remake and two series at finale. Even Patrik-Ian Polk who is the only real name associate with this project has the scantest IMDB resume.
Is this no more than a shill post? das - any further support? |
I'm gay and cannot relate to "Queer As Folk" very much. To be fair, I only watched the first season....but it had too many circuit boi types in it.
I like "Six Feet Under" much more. |
I'm waiting for the gay remake of Married With Children
-wink- |
I love this line from his press releases:
With this latest project, Polk is out to set the record straight (so to speak) that not all gay people are white. ... I really noticed the complete unwillingness of producers to feature positive black gay and lesbian characters in television and film rfduncan, I don't think there is any network support. I believe the point (whether intentional from the beginning or forced) is a straight-to-dvd release. There's a review of the first promo DVD (from 3.05.04) here: http://www.keithboykin.com/arch/2004_03_05.html Other than that, though, and a few snippets at places like Advocate.com, it's not getting much press. Definitely an independent project, but then so was Punks. You could always email [email protected] for their "solid business plan." I question someone running a business from a hotmail account, thought. das |

The UK QAF is a lot better, from what I gather. But I don't think anything can beat Six Feet Under, simple because it deals with it in the way most gay people deal with it. It' part of life, but it's not the entire life. On QAF, everything anyone deals with is gay gay gay. |
So what you're saying is Nvidia has the gay?
das |
Yes, Nividia is a fairy...
|
I can't wait! Black gays are cool!
Jewish black gays are even cooler. The very coolest? Jewish black gays with dislexia that fight crime. |
If only Sammy Davis, Jr. were gay...
