Century City: What is the buzz?

What's the buzz on the new CBS show "Century City"? I've only seen one commercial, and it looks kinda interesting. Some kind of futuristic Law and Order or something.

Red Dog 03-09-04 02:37 PM

Yeah - I was thinking a futuristic L.A. Law. I'll definitely give it a shot, assuming it is in a friendly timeslot.

Morf 03-09-04 02:43 PM

Looks like it is on Tuesday at 8pm CST. So the "biggest" competition it is up against is According to Jim, American Idol, Frasier, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. I'll be tuning in to check it out.

Morf - you forgot One Tree Hill and, most of all, Scrubs.

Perfect. I don't watch/record anything in that slot. Not even 24.

Oops, forgot that it is an hour show.

Maybe I can use this as an excuse to finally dump 24!

Bah, who am I kidding ... I just have to see the resolution to this baby subplot.

Up against The Shield too.

No. The Shield is on at 10 ET (with an encore at 11). CC is on at 9 ET.

Groucho 03-09-04 03:02 PM

Amend that to state that in my area it's up against The Shield. Of course, if Century City is a good enough show, one could always wait for the encore an hour later.

Here are descriptions of the first 2 episodes. Note that the 2nd episode is a special Saturday presentation.

Spoiler:

Tuesday, March 16, 9PM ET/PT
"Pilot"
A young boy’s father wants the right to use the boy’s genetic embryo clone to develop a baby who could donate a portion of his liver to save him. The firm also takes on the case of a boy band that is suing its lead singer for not adhering to his contract to keep up his physical appearance.

Saturday, March 20, 10PM ET/PT
"Sweet Child of Mine"
A distraught married couple sues the doctor who performed the genetic scan on their unborn son because he did not disclose the child would be born gay. Meanwhile, a man sues his ex-girlfriend for downloading his personality traits. Richard Thomas guest stars.

I think this show looks stupid.

Insightful. -rolleyes-

I think that this is a good premise, but I just can't imagine it actually being good.

AGuyNamedMike 03-16-04 01:23 PM

Ohh, a show about lawyers? That's so new, so bold, so original!

not.

not.

But it takes place in the future, dude!

FUTURE!!!

DUDE!!!

Jeraden 03-16-04 02:09 PM

I have it scheduled to record tonight. It looks incredibly dumb though, but I'll give it a shot.

Mopower 03-16-04 02:23 PM

Everything is cooler in the future. Even law!!

I hope every episode doesn't deal with some stupid genetic cloning problem like the first two episodes. How original. -rolleyes-

Patman 03-16-04 02:41 PM

And don't forget, the second episode will be on this Saturday at 10 p.m. (but it's after the NCAA games, so you might want to pad your PVR or VCR by 30 minutes) on CBS.

Excellent head's up. I forgot about that.

Verbal Gorilla 03-16-04 03:52 PM

ARe they going to make a show for city in Los Angeles county?!

funkyryno 03-17-04 04:48 AM

Did anyone see the first episode? Thoughts?

Chew 03-17-04 06:03 AM

The clone portion was decent enough, but the 'B' story was short and pointless. The church scene was easily the cheesiest thing I've seen all season on any program.

I'll keep watching, but am not expecting much out of it.

Patman 03-17-04 08:52 AM

I am going to relegate this show to weekend viewing of the recording because I wasn't all that impressed by it so far to watch it late Thursday night (after AI, The Shield, and Gilmore Girls, etc...). The Rock Star subplot was actually entertaining enough to spoof the current plastic surgery craze and extend it to absurd level (if technology allowed it). It was funny to see Councilman Hamann (Matrix Reloaded) dancing up a storm.

Geofferson 03-17-04 09:04 AM

I caught this last night by accident and wasn't impressed in the least. I don't think I'll continue watching.
