Need the name of Canadian show.

A few years back, my PBS station was playing a great comedy about a Canadian PBS station. What was this called?

Well, there's no such thing as a Canadian PBS station...

Was it The Newsroom?

Yes! Thanks. With that, I found it at Amazon, but only on VHS.

Here's a link to show information if anyone is interested.

Here is a link to the DVD at Amazon.ca:

While this is the complete series (the first series), there is another Newsroom series that is now airing on CBC, and there was a Return To The Newsroom movie.

Awesome, thanks. I wonder why the American Amazon would not have this.

The new series is fairly good, but not a patch on the original. I think a large part of it is the absence of Tanya Allen, Mark Farrell (his dry delivery was a riot), and Jeremy Hotz. Finkelman is as funny as always, but his schtick is getting a little old, and the new associates are not nearly as good. I thought "Escape from the Newsroom", the TV movie, was pretty terrible; not funny and full of sloppy directing. Continuity errors left and right.

I've read some reviews on this and decided to give it a blind buy. What sold me was the comparison to Sports Night. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Haven't you ever seen MacNeil/Lehrer (now called the Lehrer Newshour)? If only all news programs aspired to its level of quality. Pared down to an almost ridiculously basic format, this is the way news should be: No glitz; minimal corporate influence, which consequence is that inter-news promotion is absent; no weather forecasts or sports reports, neither of which should usually be considered news anyway; a sober, composed, unaffected news anchor, unlike the phony, head-nodding automatons one sees on every other channel.

The masterful original "The Newsroom" was actually set at the CBC - which is not the Canadian equivalent of PBS (that honour goes to TVOntario) - and filmed in its labyrinthine Toronto headquarters (only the name of the local newscast was fictitious). The new one, to my knowledge, has made no explicit affiliation with CBC.

Well, yes, I have, but it seemed obvious to me that the Newsroom was set at CBC, and could never have been at a PBS station.

Well... in Ontario... yes... but other proviences have their own.
