Looking to find a new TV show to buy on DVD

Wife and I really enjoy the TV on DVD thing, and we've been hooked on Buffy, Angel, and 24. What are the other good ones to watch? I've heard Alias is good, also heard Firefly is good, but I don't believe I will get that only because there's only 14 episodes, and we like the ones that are on longer than that...

Any suggestions for a blind buy?

Farscape is a bit pricey, but it is one of my favorite shows.

Alias, I bought Season Two a few weeks ago on a blind buy and haven't let up since. Now, I've gone back and bought Season One and even borrowed my buddies tapes of the Season 3 to catch up. I'm not sure how I missed this until now.

The best TV series I've seen in the last 5 or so years is Six Feet Under. I recommend that one.

Edit: Season 1 is only 13 episodes though if that matters.

I enjoy both Sex and the City and Six Feet Under.

Also, you might want to try Band of Brothers. Excellent mini-series you will like if you enjoy Saving Private Ryan.

Star Trek TNG and DS9 are another one to consider. It's a bit pricier than other season series though.

Babylon 5 is also another good series if you like sci-fi.

If you like '24' and 'Sopranos', you might also like 'Wiseguy'.

Deep Space 9!

Hubby and I are on season 7-- he'd never seen most of it before and he really enjoyed it.

If you like, long-running story arcs you can't go wrong with this show.

Whenever I see threads like this 24 always comes to mind first. But since you have done that...

Stargate: SG-1. Some of the first season are boring but tie in, in later seasons. Sci-fi with a comedic touch and an ... ahem ... 'out-of-this world' ensemble cast. Couldn't resist.

Based on what you like, I would say that the best bets are Alias, Farscape, and Firefly.

I suspect that you would love all 3.

Give Firefly a shot. It will give you something to look forward to when the movie is release (fingers crossed).

Alias
Dark Angel
Firefly
NYPD Blue
Stargate SG-1
The Shield
West Wing

All good choices IMHO. I just started Farscape so I cannot give an opinion on it yet.

Coupling (uk version)
Mr. Show

^ those aren't what you're looking for, but they're really funny.

I've heard nothing but good things about Band of Brothers and I'm gonna pick it up.

I'm a sci fi guy, so I suggest...

Stargate SG-1 - fun sci fi action, that, like Buffy, doesn't take itself too seriously and has lots of humor and creative writting. IMO, the most underrated sci fi TV series around.

Doctor Who - hands down (sorry Trekers) The Greatest Sci Fi TV series ever! Doctor Who was shown in stories of multiple episodes rather than "seasons", and each story has it's own DVD. I suggest "Dalek Invasion of Earth", "Tomb of the Cybermen", "Robots of Death" or "Talons of Wang Chaing" to start with. It's very british and the budget is low, so the special effects are cheesy, but the actual stories and the acting are fantastic.

Farscape - the DVD's are a little pricey, but it's a awesome show.

Battlestar Galactica - if you want to go old school, it doesn't get any better than the original Battlestar.

If you like sci-fi, you have to give Babylon 5 a try. Serious.
