The Apprentice 2/19 Question (spoilers)

This was the episode where they had to clean up an apartment then rent it out for the most they could get.

I missed the first 15 minutes.

What was the act of betrayal that they kept talking about, that ended up getting the girl canned? For what it's worth, she was pretty annoying, I was hoping that she was going to get canned last week but it didn't happen.

Steam 02-19-04 10:27 PM

Katrina and Troy were the project managers and they looked at two apartments and had to decide what one each got. Katrina knew she wanted the second and Troy overheard her so he went with that one as well. She wanted Troy to write down what one he wanted on a piece of paper and she'd do the same. She did but all he wrote was "I want what you want". She didn't like that very much and of course he won the coin flip.

Then at the results meeting Katrina complained and adamently denied she was "duped" and her teammates agreed with her except for Tammy.

Katrina is the best looking one there but made some bad calls and definitely won't win this now. She acted too immature.

As of now I think it is Amy's to lose.

Gallant Pig 02-19-04 11:14 PM

I thought she got a little too huffy in the board meeting as well. Troy's group won on sheer dumb luck. I was hoping they would catch Ponderosa playing basketball with her "headache".

nickdawgy 02-19-04 11:53 PM

That Katrina was way out of line. I was so hoping she'd get fired this week. She is so full of herself.

vinhj 02-19-04 11:58 PM

I think they were making a huge deal over Tammy's comment in the board room. It sounded like she just wasn't thinking about what she was saying, not being intentionally malicious or disloyal about it. But I'm glad they got rid of her, if I had to sit through her negotiating (or even just her interaction with other live human beings), I would have thrown my TV out the window.

Kal-El 02-19-04 11:59 PM

That's one ugly girl down. :D
Katrina's pretty but she made waaaaaay too big a deal with what happened. Glad that Protege won. And what was with her suddenly attacking Bill like that?

Ponderosa better watch that act.

bigsoos 02-20-04 12:00 AM

Katrina's hot... but she did mess up by leaving Bill or whatever in charge of signing the lease. Ponderosa is getting on my nerves too, looks like she's annoying everyone else too. Too bad that plaster that fell on her head wasnt bigger.

Decker 02-20-04 12:09 AM

Look, you can't blame Bill for that one. It was late in the day and there were very few prospects. The woman offered $1600. It turned out that for them to win, they would have needed to rent the place for over $1900. That would be one difficult negotiation for anyone.

Katerina needs to get over that whole thing with Troy (which I guess was the "betrayl"). It was obvious that this had the best potential for a profit.
"I want what you want."

jeffkjoe 02-20-04 12:13 AM

I think if you had to choose the ultimate winner based on who's NEVER been to the boardroom to face Trump face-to-face, the only two of the nine left who haven't done so yet are:

Amy and Ereka.

And Amy's never been on a losing team, but Ereka has.

And it seems as if Trump likes Nick and Amy the best out of the entire bunch. So if I had to bet on it, I'd predict Amy and Nick to be in the final two, with Amy taking it all.

Why? Because I think Trump would like to choose a woman ultimately because not only does she deserve it, but also, publicity-wise, he would look good too.

DJ_Spyder 02-20-04 12:36 AM

So much for Tammy I was hoping that she would do a better job defending herself from Katrina's attack but she got canned in the process as for Bill he could have done better it was his responsibility to negotiate the lease for the apartment and with the only prospect he had he didn't do a very good job it came off to me he just wanted to close the deal right away and be done with it. Next week will be very interesting it appears that Omarosa is no doubt burning her bridges so to speak with her teammates especially Heidi I for one look forward to seeing her go since Omarosa is just a disruption to the team.

beecee24 02-20-04 12:44 AM

Wow, that was a really hard read.

I thaught Troy's move was brilliant. It obviously got under Katrina's skin

I also agree her reaction in the boardroom room looked like a 12 year old school girl who got beat at dodge ball. Very immature!. I think the Don wanted tokeep her around longer for eye candy but I think she weakened her chances of winning now

I also loved when Donald said It was a load of crap she never got duped in real estate. Everybody loses deals

I think his excuse for getting rid of Tammy was weak all she did was tell the truth imo

I think Amy looks better every week. She smart, calm and a great leader/organizer

I also wasn't a big fan of Heidi's but she handled herself very well last night after getting the bad news about her mom.

Amorasa needs to go but the Don might keep her around just to have an antagonist for the others

briank 02-20-04 07:35 AM

I don't think Troy did anything wrong, and I think we all pretty much agree on that. I just hope Trump (getting somewhat limited information) doesn't count it against Troy either.

Who won this week really was just dumb luck.
So it isn't like you could really blame Bill or Katrina, I don't think they would have rented it for $1900+ that day anyway.

With that said, Katrina handled herself in the boardroom poorly, just blaming Troy for unfair play. She could have just put a positive spin on what they did accomplish. Her one biggest mistake was she knew with her "experience" in the field Trump would call her out on having Bill be the only negotiator (not that it would have made a difference).

I don't think Katrina should have been fired for this one mistake though, I agree with the decision on letting Tammy go.
She just isn't professional in her interactions.
(I agree though, that she wasn't "disloyal" last night).

I think she just bugged the construction workers, last week she was terrible with ideas and the celebrities like Regis and Carson got turned off by her very quickly.
And when she met George Steinbrenner she was saying "Oh look at that bling bling on you hand". Silly.

Red Dog 02-20-04 07:58 AM

Trump knows what he is doing. Hot chick vs plain chick. Hmmmm, which one shall I fire from my reality television show. ;)

Beyond the looks, Tammy had to go. She was a cancer to that team. I don't think she offered anything and her negativity was a detriment to the team. Trump definitely made the right choice on the merits.

I didn't like this challenge though. A coin toss essentially decided it.

Ponderosa may go down as the most unlikeable person in the history of reality television. She is starting to rival some of those idiots from Paradise Hotel.

Jeraden 02-20-04 08:04 AM

Well, I wouldn't say Troy didn't do anything wrong. I wouldn't call it unethical, but what he did is not a professional business tactic. He did not go into the negotiation in good faith, in fact he never even came out and stated which property he wanted. He showed no interest in even negotiating at all. Rolling the dice on a 50-50 gamble isn't good negotiating tactics.

BDB 02-20-04 08:07 AM

That was a little unbalanced with the 2 apts. being priced at 1200 and 1500, any person with any sense for making money would have been all over the lesser priced apt, as it had more potential upside

Regardless of getting contractors in to do the work etc.

I think tammy was a man. Did you see how she sat down when they were discussing who would be brought in to be fired, legs spread way wide. and a super high neck on her blouse.

Her voice. too many questions, she certainly was a bad apple on that team.

I do think though that if I had been in the boardroom, instead of blaming it all on Tammy, I would have drilled Bill for not negotiating, it may have backfired, but I see him as a stronger competitor in the long run then tammy.

Although at this point I have yet to really see anyone play this as a game. They are all about the team, whereas an individual will win this, it won't be a team victory in the end.

Patman 02-20-04 08:15 AM

Tammy was on another planet for most of this show.

I like Amy the most, hope she goes far. Too bad her team will have to lose for Omarosa to get the boot, can't stand Omarosa.

Troy's got too much shyster in him for the Donald to trust him to run a company. They should have just flipped the coin at the start and be done with the whole "negotiating" aspect of the selection of the 2 places. Katrina was just mad because she didn't think of what Troy wrote on his piece of paper.

syphon00 02-20-04 08:59 AM

Katrina's hot and all
but she's total whinny bitch that's really high maintenance

and the fact that she won't admit that she made a mistake is really
dispicable

all I could hear in the conference room was ME ME ME, she's no team player and cerainly not a leader if all she thinks about is what she did and how well she supposedly did her job
she even tried to present her business plan after they freakin lost
how pathetic

anyways considering that she's this supposed awesome real estate agent WTF would she delegate the negotiation to Bill? Bill's a cool headed dude but he don't know @!#$ about negotiating a real estate deal

Red Dog 02-20-04 09:13 AM

Katrina could not have gotten $1920 for that apartment (which is what it would have taken to win), so the delegation was a moot point.

neiname 02-20-04 09:23 AM

This was a bullshit assignment that was decided on a coinflip. For the life of me I cannot understand why the show could not find two apartments that were the same starting price. Losing a coinflip is not getting duped. Irregardless of the "writing down" situation both teams wanted the $1200 apartment because it had the most upside and no one was going to budge. It would have been interesting if they thought out of the box and came up with soem creative ways to decide who would get the apartment they wanted. For example, I would've asked Troy to give me the equivalent of $100 a month to take the $1500 apartment. In the end Troy's team still would have won ($1425 to $1750) but it would have been a lot better than a coinflip.

Say what you will with Katrina delegating negotiations to Bill but she was the one to get the contractor to do all the work for $1500, which was an achievement in itself. I agree that Tammy should have gotten the boot because she is an idiot.

Groucho 02-20-04 09:47 AM

The point isn't really to have a fair and balanced competition as it is to see how people act in these situations. There's still enough competitors in the game that Trump can have any three people in the boardroom and not have to worry about firing one of his favorites.

It'll be interesting to see how the competition changes as the numbers dwindle more. Will the teams be combined a la Survivor?

tofu 02-20-04 09:55 AM

After last week's and this week's show, it was pretty apparent that Tammy needed to go.

The other team won on sheer dumb luck as they said in the show. Oh well. At least they got to get rid of Tammy.

Patman 02-20-04 10:00 AM

No one said business was fair.
