NC-17 cut of "starship Troopers" on F/X wth???

according to imdb
The 4 second decapitation shot removed from the U.S. theatrical release is seen in the version on the FX network. is this little shot in any of hte dvd releases?

Jackskeleton 02-06-04 12:59 PM

I like how you talk about a NC-17 film and then follow it with the censored version of What the Fhuck by replacing the F with a HELL.

as for your question.. uh.. sorry, don't know.

Rypro 525 02-06-04 01:12 PM

I thought one of hte forum rules was "no abrieviated swearing in post titles.

What the ***** do you care?

;)

And why wouldn't the DVD have the NC-17 rated version instead of FX?? IMDB is mostly based on user info by the way. A percentage of it is BS (chit I did it again!)

POWERBOMB 02-06-04 03:41 PM

He likes his swearing to be unabrieviated.

Tuan Jim 02-06-04 03:45 PM

I wouldn't say it's NC-17 on F/X. They probably were allowed to trade the shower scene (obviously cut) for the head shot.

Incidentally, where is this decapitation supposed to take place in the film? Was it on the DVD? I'm drawing a blank.

Me007gold 02-06-04 03:52 PM

it wasnt on the dvd as far as i remember

mikehunt 02-06-04 04:54 PM

it's on the dvd, I've seen it. I'll go get the exact time position in a minute
one of the flying insects comes down and it's wing cuts someone's head off

mikehunt 02-06-04 05:12 PM

regular release and special edition, widescreen. it's between 1hr:30 and 1hr:31
the special edition may have a little more detail, I didn't go frame by frame on both editions.
not very graphic in either version in my opinion

is that the one where the guy's standing on the tower in the fort or on the wall, or some other time?

mikehunt 02-06-04 10:12 PM

that's the one
in the special edition, which I did the freeze frame of there
Spoiler:
is a close up of the guy's face and left arm. arm gets chopped first at about mid forearm then the head. gets a little blood spray

not sure if the regular edition also shows that detail or not. the spoilered detail is only about 2-3 frames before it goes back up to the long shot which is why it may have also happened in the regular edition, I was just too lazy to freeze frame it

Pathetic that American culture will accept the violence but not a shower scene if that is indeed true.

Blow someones head off just don't show boobies.

Yes, what a horrible culture we are. If only we would show more nudity, then we could be the greatest country on earth. Many people would flock to our country and seek to call it home. Oh wait, that's already true. -wink-

oh man, iam stupid for some reason i was thinking "super troopers" now i know what your talking about doh!

We're pathetic for a lot more reasons than just boobies.

And, yes, that is indeed true. There's also a scene later on where we don't get to see Dina Meyer's boobs in all their glory.

mike, does the SE have enough to warrant an upgrade?

Aphex Twin 02-07-04 03:07 PM

I want the rumored 30 minute shower scene!

mikehunt 02-07-04 03:58 PM

I haven't gone through all the special features, but it does have a few more mini documentaries and making of featurettes. I think it has some additional commentary tracks too. I don't think there's more difference in the footage though, most of the deleted scenes in the SE are also on the regular release.
I'd say it might be worth it if you can get it preowned or on sale, but I don't think there's enough of a difference to warrant paying anything close to retail

as to the decapitation scene, it's much less violent as any of the other combat scenes. there isn't even any visible blood unless you do a frame by frame, not sure why FX is trying to make much of it

Actually John, the poster has a good point. As Americans we shrug at the fact that we now realize there was no WMDs in Iraq, then go ballistic over Janet Jackson showing her boob on national TV. And Americans wonder why the rest of the world makes fun of us!

Every country has cultural, societal, and political aspects that get bashed upon. Such as Canada with it's messed-up medical system, Japan with it's bizarre sexuality, France with it's pansy-ness, etc.

Rypro 525 02-07-04 04:38 PM

do i have to get a specific version of the dvd or is this one particular shot on all of the dvd verisons.

Ok, you are right. Thanks. I am making arrangements to move to another country.

jaeufraser 02-07-04 08:36 PM

yeah, who knows why here we get bent up about sex, but violence is far more accepted. Makes me think that Justin T should've lopped Janet's head off with a chainsaw...then there wouldn't have been a controversy.

And regarding this flick...why make the fuss? So people will watch it. And then not be able to notice the difference, so they watch the whole damn movie looking for it. Silly marketing ploy really.

The rest of the world is jealous of us.
