Yet ANOTHER reason why Leno is better than Letterman

This would never have happened on Leno...

Snowboarder injured during stunt for Letterman show

A snowboarder performing a stunt for David Letterman's late-night TV show veered off a ramp on a Manhattan street and fell 25 feet to the ground Thursday.

The woman, snowboarding champion Tara Dakides, was taken to a hospital and was listed in stable condition, said "Late Night with David Letterman" executive producer Rob Burnett.

Witnesses said the 30-year-old snowboarder made two successful jumps on the U-shaped ramp, set up outside the Ed Sullivan Theater, and then fell off the ramp after landing a third time.

"She came down at an angle and she just went off the side of the ramp and landed on her back," said Dave Riddle, a tour bus driver from Orlando, Fla.

The CBS show regularly tapes stunts on the streets outside the studio. Because of the accident, the "Late Show" stopped taping and planned to air a repeat episode Thursday night.

Dakides, nicknamed the Terrorizer, has finished first in several X Games events, according to the EXPN.com site.

And are you being sarcastic? I don't see how a freak accident reflects on the quality of either show.

shaun3000 02-05-04 10:05 PM

Ah, I missed your bold. I thought the same thing: Leno would still air it.

Not many accidents you can get doing the same boring old Jay walking though..

Conan owns both. :p

"The only thing I am upset about is that the French judge only gave me a 5.6," Dakides quipped from her hospital bed, according to her spokesman.

Other scheduled guests for the show were actress Drew Barrymore and pop band Fountains of Wayne.

I don't know. I gotta give Dave props for keeping Drew Barrymore off the air!

Roto 02-06-04 11:16 AM

Drew was the guest that night? They probably paid the snowboarder to take a dive for fear of Drew climbing on Dave's desk to flash her boobs again.

Right, judge Letterman on a freak accident. Way to go.

Leno never deserved to replace Johnny Carson. IMO, he tarnished the Tonight Show legacy. How he pulls the kind of ratings he does, I'll never know.

Uh oh...

Okay, color me a rich shade of Schmuck.

Apologies, Rogue.

Jack Straw 02-08-04 10:41 PM

My reason for preferring Jay over Dave is that Jay has writers that know how to write funnier monologue jokes than Dave. Period. Or another way to put it, Dave's jokes aren't funny. After the monologue's over, I'll go with whoever has a better guest on.

thegame370 02-08-04 10:54 PM

Watching Leno interview his guest is purely painful. He gives the most boring, most uncomfortable interviews, most of the time i actuallly feel bad for the guest, like if i was sitting there. Its also so obvious how fake that guy is, he tries to act like he interested in things the guest have to say but you can always see right through that guy. In short, Leno sucks, Conan Rules!

A few years ago she was injured filming some sort of horse stunt while taping Leno's show. I think the horse slipped on the asphalt and she was spilled.

Jackskeleton 02-09-04 01:17 AM

Hey paul, uh... you want any gum...

still cracks me up to this day..
