devilshalo 01-24-04 09:40 PM

A majority of the performers do, however there are some that do not.. and they are a welcomed surprise. :)

Everybody sings with their lips. If you mean lip sync, that's a different kettle of fish. ;)

haha...that is what i meant. so do they do it? its so bad i wouldnt be surprised if soul train has publically admitted they do so.

Umm...apparently you're the only one who thinks it is a secret. Bands have lip-synced for ages on Soul Train, as well as American Bandstand, Solid Gold, Top Of The Pops (for our British friends) and many of the other old "live" shows. I just downloaded a clip of YMO on Soul Train from 1980 or 81, and they lip-synced back then as well.

Could that be why songs always fade out at the end? I always wondered how they did that live. :D

numanoid: i never watched those shows....ever. i just happened to flip through and see soul train the other day. i still dont see how that justifies it.

Ok, hold on, hold on, you can't say p_ussy, but you can say titty? Ain't that the same as you can't say f_uck, but you can say shit?

Yeah man, Soul Train's the shit, those hos are fine, especially the booty shaking part. Who cares if the host lip syncs.

And lets not forget everyone's favorite show on FOX, American Idol.

Exactly what I was going to post! I haven't seen Soul Train since around the time Midnight Star and Rockwell were performers.

Here in LA.. it's on Saturday's at 12pm. I don't recognize the new host that replaced Shemar Moore who replaced Don Cornelius a few years ago. I think they still tape at Paramount Studios on Saturday mornings.. but I'm not sure since I haven't been on that lot in a long time.

If you want to check out some of the booty shakers...

What is there to justify? They don't announce, "Now here's Nelly singing ABSOLUTELY LIVE WITH NO BACKING TRACK" and then there is lip-synching. At this point (some twenty-something years into its run) they expect their audience to understand what is happening.

The simple fact is that there is not enough time in these shows to have a band set up, come on and play one or two songs live, then get all the equipment off for the next event. It takes a LONG time to set up so that a live band sounds good, with all the instruments and mics mixed properly, etc., and there is no way they can do that and then clear the set for more dancing and/or perhaps another band.

Furthermore, 80% of today's "artists" don't even have real instruments in the studio, let alone "live".

He plays a cop on the show Charmed and he used to be a co-host on that talk show "The Other Half" with Dick Clark, Mario Lopez and Danny Bonaduce (sp?).
