Ed is done for good.

It appears that NBC is done with Ed as the network is promoting the final 3 Ed episodes:

"After all these years, the final three episodes of Ed remain."

"And the last three episodes of Ed..."

Rogue588 01-22-04 09:18 PM

I just saw this and have been scouring the 'net trying to find any word...

Tom & Julie are scheduled to be on the Today Show tomorrow, so i'm hoping they'll say something about it..

Jadzia 01-22-04 10:20 PM

So does that mean "Miss Match" will come back sooner?

Patman 01-22-04 10:27 PM

IIRF, it was always slated to show up after Ed's last run of episodes, which is the middle of February.

B.A. 01-22-04 10:29 PM

Damn, that sucks. I still like the show a lot, but it definitely peaked after its first two seasons, imo. Those first two years were classic television.

how did it go from so very good to so very mediocre? i think with all that nbc is losing and all the crap they have come up with, that there is still a place for an Ed next season, but if it was really high quality i'd feel a lot worse, but it's not. only mike and nancy stories are consistantly worth watching for.

worrywort 01-22-04 11:15 PM

Let's cancel this and Boomtown for more reality series

I wish I got paid millions to say that :(

MrX 01-22-04 11:45 PM

:(

tofu 01-22-04 11:48 PM

That sucks. Can't they just continue the series and name it Cheswick?

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same. I'm scared Mike and Nancy might have trouble finding other decent acting jobs. I can't get enough of Mike and his boss is great too.

Gizmo 01-23-04 12:15 AM

I have only seen 2-3 episodes this season...I can never catch this show. I kinda figured this would be the last for Ed :(

groovrbaby 01-23-04 03:19 AM

As someone who has watched Ed from the beginning, all I can say is damn. This show, with all it's faults and Carol's annoyingness has consistently been among my favorites and always on my to-watch list. I will miss the great writing of this show.

On a brighter note: The sooner Ed is off the air...the sooner the dvd's come out. Who knows...we might even end up with dvds by the february of next year!

Then they are shooting right up until the last minute.

They've been shooting principal EXTs all week around here. Monday there was a BIG set-up in Tappan, and early on Wednesday I saw the whole caravan of DRs/offices heading thru Norwood/HP.

At least I assumed it was Ed; unless there's another big production around here.

Stuckeyville.com is referring to the show in the past tense. This must have been out of the blue, as they are as completely surprised as anyone.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: there are a coupla guys at our swim club that are pretty high up in the ED office on the prod. staff. Last summer, I chatted one up (since our kids were playing together) and he CASUALLY mentioned that the show was working under the assumption that since NBC renewed ED for a fourth season they would also renew it for a fifth season. He never said if this had to do with network support, or economics of syndication (as I believe was the case with Profiler and Pretender), or whatever........

Patman 01-23-04 06:18 AM

Bring on "The Burtons"!

Perfect for the half-hour format.

bboisvert 01-23-04 08:21 AM

Wow, do you think the NBC suits must be sweating about now? No Ed. No Boomtown (or any other new, promising show). No Friends. No Frasier. ER getting *very* long in the tooth. West Wing is a pale shell of its former self.

What is the game plan for next season? Reality TV 24/7, with occasional breaks for Law & Order?

guywall 01-23-04 11:26 AM

This sucks. "The Burtons" would be great though...

Sounds like that's their plan...

at least, that's the way it's looking..

HistoryProf 01-23-04 12:01 PM

I haven't even seen it in weeks....has it even been on in the last three weeks? Every wed. night i've tuned it there's been some reality bullshit on...

Yes, but it's on Friday now.

Josh H 01-23-04 01:00 PM

Lame. This and Boomtown (along with ER off and on) are the only network shows I watch regularly. :(

Patman 01-23-04 01:01 PM

Soon to be "watched".

Charlie Goose 01-23-04 01:41 PM

This sucks, but it's not surprising at all.

Ditto. I wonder will NBC actually bring Miss Match back like they said or will they just cancel that show too. It's aggrivating when suits declare there's nothing good on TV but then they cancel the quality shows already out there.
